Shazam! Fury Of The Gods will finally be released this weekend but it won’t make as much money as DC hopes.
‘Shazam!’ Low Entry
MEGA
The highly-anticipated DC film is getting a slow rollout starting Wednesday overseas where it’s projected to make $45 million-$50 million internationally. Places like Korea, Germany, Italy, Australia, Brazil and Mexico will bring in some of those dollars.
By Friday, the film will be in the UK, Spain, Japan and China as well as the US market where it is projected to earn approximately $35 million. The film will resist Creed III which killed it at the box office in its opening weekend.
Creed III took $58.3 million. Shazam also have to compete Scream VI which was released last weekend and made $44.4 million.
‘Shazam’ PG Rating It Helps & Hinders
MEGA
This movie also has to admit that unlike most DC movies (Batman v Superman, Man of Steel, Justice League) which gets a more mature rating, this movie is actually PG and relies heavily on the family aspect.
This is great for places like the Latin American market since they appreciate the family-friendly side of movies. Hopefully, this is enough to put a dent in the low box office projections. Another issue that could cause the superhero movie to be a little low is China.
Yes, it can be said that they are not very happy with America now and really, they have a Hollywood film industry—their own kind of world there, it’s almost a courtesy that they allow American films to play there.
Since there are suspicious balloons and other objects flying in the open sky, the conversation is not where it should be for the joint contract to continue.
Shazam Takes Top Spot In 2019
MEGA
Naturally, the film’s total projection compared to its predecessor, Shazam! which was released in 2019. They started with an estimated budget of $90 to $100 million and the film exceeded that projection.
The film ended up making $366 million and in its opening weekend it made over $100 million. This is more than the David F. Sandberg-directed sequel that will be made this weekend. $85 million isn’t chump change but when you spend $125 million on a movie, you expect results in the form of financial returns.
MEGA
If you want to see the movie, it has a great cast. Besides Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Adam Brody, Jack Dylan Grazer, and other superhero friends. The cast now includes Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu, and Rachel Zegler.
The plot has grown-up superheroes battling vengeful ancient gods, one of whom is played by Lucy Liu who comes to earth in search of a stone that can bring their planet back from darkness. Unfortunately, it looks like they’re going to have to really screw up the earth to get what they want, and that’s where Billy Baston and his orphanage friends have to use their powers to fight back!
Hopefully this movie is better than projected.
