Shemar Moore Celebrates With Fans As CBS Makes U-Turn On ‘S.W.A.T’ Cancellation

Shemar Moore had nothing but love to share on social media on Monday.

Just three days after he aired his thoughts on CBS’ cancellation of “SWAT,” the actor is back to share the great news that the network is not canceling the six-year-old series. The show, which premiered in November 2017, follows the LAPD’s Special Weapons and Tactics unit led by Sergeant Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson [Moore] and has over 120 episodes.

Shemar Moore Erupts With Joy Following ‘SWAT’ Return For Final Season

Moore has celebrated the revival and return of the hit procedural series “SWAT,” which was initially canceled due to CBS’s unwillingness to make a financial commitment that would affect its model. Taking to Instagram, “The Young and the Restless” actor posted two screenshots highlighting the good news.

While the first slide shows the title of its return for the “seventh and final season”, the second shows the details of the update. Under the post, the “Soul Train” alum enthusiastically wrote:

“Ayeee!!!!! We did it #SWATFAM!!! @swatcbs is coming back for its 7th and final season with 13 episodes!!! Thank you all for your continued and amazing support!!”

A look at the comments revealed that Moore fans were just as excited to receive the tea, with one writing, “I just saw the cancellation news 1 hour ago, and now you’re renewed? That is WILD!! Lmao, crazy grace! Congratulations!”

“Congratulations bro!!! ? blessing upon blessing,” commented a second, and a third declared, “We did it SWAT tans. We should all be proud. This is the last effing day!!! Glad you spoke up for CBS and reversed your decision.”

Amid a fourth fan telling the beloved actor to “never doubt your loyal fans,” a fifth shared their dismay that CBS ordered just one more season for the show. In the words of netizens:

“It should be CBS season Finale with 13 Episodes to buy time and shop OTHER NETWORKS!!! The SWAT story isn’t over…it just needs a new home.”

Others, who shared the same sentiment, didn’t hesitate to chime in, with this Instagram user stating, “It’s better off going to a different network/streaming platform for a few more seasons. It feels like the show still has a story to tell.” A third person commented, “Now let’s get this other network for season 8.”

While we wait to see if the network will be persuaded to keep “SWAT” beyond its seventh season, Deadline reports that Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, and Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures Television Studios, issued a joint statement, which read in part:

“We’ve listened to our viewers and their passion for SWAT, and we’ve reached an agreement to renew it for a final season of 13 episodes to air in the 2023-2024 broadcast year. SWAT has been on the air for six seasons on CBS and has garnered a loyal following. We’re delighted to we found a way to bring it back and give closure to the show’s storylines and characters, which the audience deserves.”

Moore showed how the cancellation of “SWAT” hurt him in an Instagram video shared last week. According to The Blast, he began by explaining that he had shaved off his beard to give himself a fresh start before saying:

“I was wearing sunglasses, late at night, because I was a little sad. I’m a little sad. We are cancelled, SWATSWAT is cancelled. It doesn’t make sense.”

The “Diary of a Mad Black Woman” star then asked viewers to “read the article” and see that the drama has become “the best show on Friday night at 8 for CBS” After claiming that she and her crew have done what was required of them, he revealed the heartbreaking news as “the only African American male lead on network television.”

At one point in the clip, the Daytime Emmy-nominated man appreciates his colleagues and berates fans for “making some fucking noise” who will tell CBS that canceling the series was an “af**king mistake.”

While the footage did what it was supposed to and got his 4.2 million fans calling for CBS to undo the damage, it also saw people call out Moore for allegedly playing the “race card” to get his point across.
