Writing an Open Letter About Rape
On 11 December 2014, Shenaz wrote an open letter addressed to various public figures including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amitabh Bachchan, Sachin Tendulkar, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Anil Ambani. The letter was in response to the rape case that took place in an Uber taxi in Delhi. In the letter, Shenaz asked the community leader to take strict action against sex offenders. Although the letter was well-intentioned, people attributed it to a PR stunt, as his film, ‘Main aur Mr. Riight,’ will be shown. In the letter, he asked men to provide better security to women. This view is also criticized because it takes away women’s autonomy and makes them dependent on men.
