The entire studio audience and Shepherd’s Instagram followers were enveloped in nostalgia as the host tackled the new TikTok trend on his talk show and shared it in clips.

Shepherd was referring to a hot question on TikTok asking how old people used to find information years before the internet. In his humorous style, the 56-year-old replied:

“Before the internet, we had something called Encyclopedia Britannica, and I know young people might say, oh, that looks like Game Of Thrones. No, Encyclopedia Britannica is our internet. It’s like 20 books from AZ.”

The actor continued that people couldn’t get everything at once because it was so expensive and they had to “pay for every letter.” He joked that he had never done a book report that “started with T” because of a lack of funds to obtain one.

“If you ever have an Encyclopedia in your house, you’re a bomb family. And if you get a children’s edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica, they say you (are) rich,” the host continued.

“You know what else we did before GPS? Your father does things like stop at gas stations and ask for directions.”

Viewers laughed in the clip as the comment section also agreed with his statement. One follower commented, “Bravo, Sherri! It’s about time someone told these kids about how we grew up about how we got information before the internet.?????,” as a second user added, “We have a World Book. My mother buys one letter at a time..”

Another fan wrote about her favorite pre-internet experience: “Before the internet, we used to play outside with kids all over the neighborhood until dark.” While the fourth commenter admitted to missing “that time.”

Last month, Shepherd went for a quick check-up after testing positive for COVID-19, also causing him to temporarily put the show on hold. The Blast notes that before her diagnosis, she hosted Jon Batiste, Brad Williams and Michelle Bauteau with plans to bring in more celebrities like Leslie Jones, Julie Chen Moonves and Katherine Heigl for the entire premiere week.

Faced with his sudden departure, he posted a now-deleted note on his Instagram page that read, “Once I get the all clear from my doctor, I hope to come back strong to deliver real fun, laughter, and fun. good times.”
