Sherri Shepherd says being locked up for a while helped her career. He recently spoke with Page Six about eight days he served for owing $10,000 in unpaid transfer violations. This happened in the early 90s, when Shepherd was just starting his career in show business.

He said, “Yes, I went to jail for not paying my ticket. At the time I didn’t think being in jail was a good moment, but looking back I learned to pay all my bills. Prison, it was a classroom… it was a life lesson, and now I pay my bills on time.”

Reflecting on his time in prison, Shepherd mentioned one of the inmates who protected him because he knew Shepherd “was going to be somebody.” He said that the inmate’s name was Shelby and that he attended both of Shepherd’s weddings when he was finally released.

Shepherd’s career is taking off, especially with her new talk show, which premiered last fall after the Wendy Williams show ended. Shepherd had originally replaced Williams until it was confirmed that he could not return due to some health issues.

William’s show, which ran for 13 seasons, was later replaced by Shepherd’s talk show, titled “Sherri.” At the time, there was some bad blood from Williams, who didn’t like being replaced.

Williams reportedly said, “I like him, but I’m not going to watch him because I know what he’s going to do and it’s none of my business.” In Instagram Live, Williams spoke with rapper Fat Joe and said, “I love being on my own show, and I love that people love watching it all the time.” Shepherd later commented briefly on Williams, saying, “Wendy is the queen… There’s something for everyone.”

Shepherd and Murray have since been photographed at events called “Collabs,” per Page Six.

Guests in the first season included movie star and producer Tyler Perry and singer Janet Jackson. Jackson surprised Shepherd with her appearance on the show, which left the host teary-eyed and emotional. Jackson’s appearance is part of his promotional tour for his upcoming “Together Again Tour”.
