“I’m really confused. I don’t know what’s going on,” said Ralph. “I was like, ‘I hope that guy gets off the ground.’ And then I realized it was Jimmy Kimmel. And I was like, ‘Ooh, disrespect, Jimmy!’ But that’s just me.”

The actress who played Barbara Howard on the ABC sitcom used the quip she’s known for on the show when she added, “I’m sorry! I’m sorry, it was wonderful that she was lying on the floor during her incredible acceptance speech!”

Ralph noted that he also spoke to “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” host about the incident. “I told him too! To his face! And he understood,” he revealed. While the “Moesha” star wasn’t too happy at the time, her co-star Lisa Ann Walter, who stars as Melissa Schemmenti, thought otherwise, saying, “I thought it played funny in the room.”

Brunson, who was at the end of the play, also reiterated his earlier sentiments on the topic that he was not disappointed. He said during the panel, “I expect that we’re going to have a good old time. I’ve talked to Jimmy since then, and I think that no matter what, it’s important to just show that ‘Abbott Elementary’ is coming out next week.”

She continued, opening up about the good relationship she shares with the comedian, writing, “Honestly, Jimmy gave me my first big late-night spot. He’s one of the godfathers of comedy. I’m a big Will Arnett fan, so I was overwhelmed for a moment.”

He did, however, joke that he “might punch” the show’s host when he made an appearance on his talk show on Wednesday. Kimmel has also broken his silence on the matter, calling it “one of the weirdest things that’s ever happened to me.” He did, however, praise Brunson for his big win, describing him as “incredibly talented.”

She became the second black woman to win an Emmy in the 35-year category after Jackee Harry won it in 1987 for “227.”

During her impressive acceptance speech, the 65-year-old sang a song, reciting a line from jazz singer Diane Reeves’ 1993 song “Endangered Species” that read, “I’m an endangered species, but I don’t sing about victims. I’m a woman, I’m an artist , and I know where my voice is.”

Ralph’s victory was celebrated as he received a standing ovation from the audience.
