His family moved to Auckland when Setia was just seven years old. He was a smart student and wanted to be an astronaut in his school days. He attended the University of Auckland to pursue his B.com. Shirley also undertook marketing and publicity training at Auckland Council. After that, he continued his course from the New York Film Academy.

Career
Setia started his career as a Radio Jockey in Auckland with Radio Trana; a radio station that plays Hindi content in Auckland. During his journey as a radio jockey, he met many Bollywood singers like Shreya Ghoshal who encouraged him to pursue singing as his career. In 2013, Indian music label T-Series organized a YouTube contest in which Shirley recorded a cover of the song “Tum Hi Ho” on YouTube. He not only won the competition but also managed to garner a huge number of views on his YouTube Upload. It further prompted him to do covers of many popular Bollywood songs which were loved by the audience. His channel is ranked among the top #30 Most Subscribed channels on YouTube in New Zealand. Later, he collaborated with many YouTube celebrities from around the world including Sanam Puri, Arjun, Kurt Hugo Schneider, Darrel Mascarenhas, Antareep Hazarika and The Gunsmith.
Apart from social media, he also performs live in many concerts and events.
In 2018, he released his first single “Naiyo Jaana” in collaboration with music director Ravi Singal. After that, he released the Punjabi song “Koi Vi Nahi” with singer Gurnazar Chattha.
