Shivangi and I eloped. He is Maharashtrian and I am Punjabi. I play a villain and my reputation is not good. His family did not approve of the marriage, so we had to run away. He was 18 when we got married (in 1982). When he was 19, my son Siddhanth was born. That was the first time Shivangi’s mother spoke to him after our marriage when she came to see him at Breach Candy Hospital.”
Shakti said again,
Shivangi’s family does not approve of our relationship. My father, Sikandarlal Kapoor in Delhi came to know about it, he decided not to talk to me. My mother invited him to meet the girl once. As soon as he saw Shivangi, who was 10-12 years younger to me, he was like badi pyaari bachi hai (He said that she is really good). He sang two lines and my father stood up and asked why he sang so well. I told Lata ji was her first cousin, she stood up and said, “Teri sab galtiyaan maaf (All your mistakes are forgiven), because you married into such a big family.” He asks her to sing Lata ji’s song and shares that he is her big fan.
