Shivanshu Soni, also known as The Fusionist, was born on Saturday, 23 June 2001 (age 22 years; in 2023) in Umri village of Satna district, Madhya Pradesh. His zodiac sign is Cancer. He completed his school education at St. Michael in Satna, MP. He then pursued his undergraduate studies at Mumbai’s Jai Hind College. In 2019, she completed her diploma in dance at Roots of Dancing Academy Vadodara.

Career

Shivanshu started his training in classical dance at the age of 5 but there was a lack of dance academies and teachers to teach other contemporary dance forms so Shivanshu started attending dance workshops in cities like Bombay and Vadodara. This dance workshop proved to be very beneficial for her as she was able to learn various dance forms in a short period of time. He then started practicing his own dance style which involved a combination of Kathak and waving, popping, cutting, and animation.

Dance Competition

By 2016, Shivanshu began participating in large-scale dance competitions. She got her big break when she won the Dance Vindhya Dance competition in 2016.

In 2018, she won the Evolution 2 National Dance Competition held in Goa with an impressive dance performance and became the runner-up in the same competition in 2019.

In April 2020, when a curfew was imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he participated in a dance competition called the Stay Home Solo Dance Competition. Participants have to participate from their homes; Shivanshu won the competition after three rounds of dance performances.

In 2021, she participated in the American reality competition TV series World Dance Championship. Although he finished second in the qualifying round, he did not advance to the next round. In May 2022, he participated in the No.1 Entertainer competition organized by Flipkart, where he emerged as one of the top 25 contestants out of 25000 contestants. In the final round, he achieved an impressive position among the top 3 contestants.

Reality Dance Show

Clock Ke Naach

Shivanshu successfully auditioned for the Gujarat reality dance show ‘Jam Ke Naach’ in January 2018 and was selected as one of the Top 10 finalists. The performance was judged by popular Indian choreographer Terence Lewis and other celebrities. Although Shivanshu did not make it to the finals, he made it to the Top 3 and won a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh.

A Chance To Dance

In 2019, Shivanshu auditioned for the reality dance show One Chance To Dance. Terence Lewis, a famous Indian choreographer, during the finale of One Chance to Dance season 1 praised Shivanshu and said he never lost the essence of the dance form. Be it Kathak, a classical dance form, or contemporary ones like cutting, waving and bursting, he maintains the true essence of both dance forms. It is this unique quality that makes him the best fusionist. He reached the finals of the show however, he could not win it.

Dance+6

Shivanshu participated in the auditions for the dance reality show Dance+ 6 in 2021. He impressed the judge, Remo D’Souza, with his performance, and was placed directly into the Top 12 contestants of the show, becoming the first contestant to qualify directly for the Top 12. However, he was eliminated during the competition to reach the Top 6.

India’s Best Dancer

Shivanshu participated in the auditions for the popular reality dance show ‘India’s Best Dancer Season 3’ which aired on SonyLIV in 2023. His unique mix of pop, animation, cut and wave with Kathak left a lasting impression on all the judges, which included famous personalities like Sonali Bendre and Terence Lewis. Judge Geeta Kapur was very impressed with her performance and proceeded to protect her from any evil eye by placing a black dot behind her ear. He also compared his skills to the legendary classical dancer Pandit Birju Maharaj.

Norwegian dance group, Quick Style, is the first international dance group to appear on any Indian reality dance show. They praise Shivanshu for its unique blend of classical and contemporary dance forms. After several rounds, Shivanshu made it to the top 5 contestants of the show including Samarpan Lama and Anjali Mamgai.

On 30 September 2023, Shivanshu placed second runner-up in the grand finale, which featured appearances from Bollywood actors Govinda, Tiger Shroff and Kriti Sanon, with Anjali Mamgai taking first place.

On his arrival in Satna, he received a warm welcome and was awarded a trophy of which he said,

They awarded me this trophy because I am the Winner for them. What more could I ask for! I officially WIN now!”

Choreographer

Shivanshu conducts dance workshops in different cities where he teaches classical and contemporary fusion skills of dance. He often collaborates with dancers for social media rolls. An incident of such collaboration was shared by Terence Lewis during the show India’s Best Dancer, he said,

Some time ago, I found her on Instagram and sent her a message, saying, I want to learn dance from you because I have never trained in Indian Classical dance but have always been fascinated by it. After that, we worked together to create some Instagram rolls. I must also mention he is an entertainer. I can’t wait to see your every move this season.”

  • Shivanshu was five years old when he first performed on stage at his school. She liked it and joined a Kathak dance class in Satna.
  • People around her including her relatives did not like her learning Kathak as a child because they thought the classical dance was only for girls. Despite this, his family always supported him, providing financial and emotional support, which helped him pursue his dreams.
  • In March 2018, he attended a dance workshop by Eric John Campros, an American choreographer, who was impressed by Shivnashu’s performance. He offered her a scholarship to study dance for free at his dance academy, Broadway Dance Center New York.
