A Super Bowl parade of Kansas City Chiefs fans has just been interrupted by gunfire with at least 8 people injured.

Multiple Gunshots Disrupt Kansas City Chiefs’ Post-Super Bowl Celebration

Thousands of Kansas City Chiefs fans were dispersed as the festivities turned chaotic on Wednesday.

The team’s celebrities, such as Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes, were quickly escorted off the stage when gunfire erupted, with a significant police presence quickly moving into nearby Union Square.

Before the breakdown, confetti cannons erupted from a double-decker bus as Chiefs players made their way through the crowd, accompanied by a DJ and drummer announcing their arrival.

The streets are full of die-hard fans — with some street poles, climbing trees or standing on rooftops to get a better view of the parade.

Although the exact number of casualties is unclear at this time, it has been suggested that several individuals have been shot. Additionally, at least one individual was seen being transported on a stretcher, and law enforcement has detained two gunmen.

Police said they allowed everyone inside Union Square to leave about 15 minutes after the shooting.

According to live coverage of the massive event, people outside Union Station — the march’s final destination — were quickly rushing away, with some individuals even jumping over barriers to make a quick escape.

Presenters also reported that people urged them to take cover while others rushed indoors for safety. Crew members even mentioned hearing some loud noises before the audience began to leave the area near the museum and First World War memorial.

Six Die In Helicopter Crash On The Way To The Super Bowl

While we await more details on the Valentine’s Day incident, The Blast previously reported that the Super Bowl weekend was marred by helicopter crash news.

In an article published on February 10, we shared that authorities revealed that a helicopter crash in California’s part of the Mojave Desert resulted in the tragic deaths of six individuals.

The plane, an Airbus EC130, was en route from Palm Springs, California, to Boulder City, Nevada, near Las Vegas, where Super Bowl LVIII is scheduled for Sunday.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department informed local media that the helicopter took off from the airport around 8:45 p.m. that day before crashing near Baker, California, around 10 p.m. on Friday, February 9.

Rainy weather conditions are said to have prevailed at the time of the crash, and although authorities have been searching for survivors, none have been found at the time of our report.

However, it has since been confirmed that the victims of the tragic crash were Herbert Wigwe, CEO of Nigerian bank Access Holdings, his wife, Chizoba Wigwe, and their child, Chizi Wigwe.

Abimbola Ogunbanjo — former chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc, and two pilots were also among those killed in the plane crash. In a statement addressing the next steps in the unfortunate situation, the FAA stated:

“The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate. The NTSB will take charge of the investigation and will provide any updates.”
