Uncoupled delves into the issues of dating as a homosexual in today’s culture.
Michael Lawson, a middle-aged real estate agent, is dumped by his long-term lover in Uncoupled. Michael must now forge his own path into the current dating scene, or he will be celibate for the rest of his life. The first season of the sitcom had an interesting narrative as well as some funny moments. Netflix has canceled many programs in recent months, including Inside Job, Warrior Nun, Resident Evil, and 1899. Fans have expressed anger and outrage over the cancellation of these series, but Netflix has yet to respond.
Following the cancellation of Uncoupled by Netflix, the search for a new home for the program began immediately, though initially without success. To the delight of fans, Showtime stepped in to save the day. So far there is no information about the release date or the narrative of the next season.
Neil Patrick Harris, star of the show, previously stated:
“Doing an as*xy show with homosexual material that’s easy for everyone to watch and digest is, in my opinion, a step in an exciting direction. I believe we’re in a very fortunate period, at least as performers, to be on Uncoupled because a show like this wouldn’t have been made 10 years ago, let alone five years ago.”
He goes on to state that the narrative is more of a coming-of-age story. It’s a narrative about young people struggling with their sexuality and what it means. The actor said that it is beautiful that it is a narrative that has been told and is still being repeated.
Showtime has joined Paramount+ and is currently developing several new series and spinoffs. They want to focus on stories with intelligent characters. Emily in Paris creator Darren Star and Modern Family writer Jeffrey Richman teamed up on Uncoupled.
According to the show’s official synopsis:
“Michael’s life seemed ideal until his long-term partner unexpectedly dumped him after 17 years of marriage. He must face his dream of losing his soulmate and finding himself alone as a homosexual man in his mid-40s.”
The first season of the program consisted of eight episodes, each lasting between 27 and 31 minutes.
