Shruti Sharma is an Indian woman who topped UPSC Civil Services 2021 with AIR Rank 1.

Shruti Sharma was born in New Delhi, India. His family hails from Basta village in Chandpur Tehsil of Bijnor district, Uttar Pradesh. He attended Cambridge Primary School in Delhi from kindergarten to fifth grade for his primary education, and later, he enrolled in Sardar Patel Vidyalaya, Delhi. A member of the student executive during his school days, Sharma was appointed as the cultural affairs secretary responsible for organizing various school events. He pursued a Bachelor of Arts in History at St Stephen’s College, Delhi. He spent his college days participating in various types of debates such as parliamentary debates, conventional debates and turn-based debates. After that, he joined Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) for his graduation but soon he dropped out of it. Later, he enrolled at the Delhi School of Economics, New Delhi, where he pursued his MA in Sociology. While pursuing her MA, she started preparing for the Civil Services Examination at the Jamia Millia Islamia Residential Coaching Academy (RCA).

Belonging to a family of engineers and doctors, Shruti was the only member of her family who chose Arts and studied History. His great-grandfather, Dayaswaroop Sharma, who hailed from Athai, Chandpur, was a doctor. His grandfather, Devendra Dutt Sharma, was also a famous doctor. His father, Sunil Dutt Sharma, is an architect and runs a construction consultancy firm in Delhi. Sunil also supervises a local school called Bal Gyan Niketan School in his home town of Basta. His paternal uncle, Yagya Dutt, and his cousin are also doctors. His mother, Rachna Sharma, is a former teacher, and she hails from Bulandshahr. Shruti’s younger brother is a cricketer and represents UP in U25 cricket.

- In his Mock Interview, he stated his reasons for pursuing a career in Civil Service and said,
I believe I have a certain privileged background, therefore, I always want to do something where I can give back to society in some way…Secondly, I believe that on a personal level the diversity and scope provided by this service can be a path for growth great personality and room to learn a lot.”
- In his interview, he also revealed that he has learned Urdu.
- On 28 May 2022, Shruti Sharma made headlines after the release of the UPSC Toppers list 2021. It was a significant event in the history of UPSC exams as the top three slots were won by women with Ankita Agarwal securing AIR 2 and Gamini Singla AIR 3.

However, at that time, Shruti’s mother’s family lived in a rural area and the coaching center was far away making it impossible for Rachna to fulfill her mother’s wishes.
