During her audition for MTV Roadies, Shuly shared her traumatic experience of an abusive boyfriend and the various discriminatory labels she fought against because of her dark skin color. She revealed that at the age of 14 or 15, she fell in love with a boy six years older than her. The two used to play together in the neighborhood as children. Her boyfriend would make flattering comments about her skin tone. One day, her boyfriend’s friend approached Shuly with a message that her boyfriend had been beaten by his parents and she wanted to meet him somewhere at night. Although Shuly belongs to a conservative South Indian family, he managed to sneak out of his house at night by falsely telling his parents that he was going to collect homework assignments from his classmates’ houses. After that, Shuly, together with his friend, reached the location where his boyfriend asked him to come. Surprisingly, it is an abandoned area with no commercial or residential buildings around. There, her boyfriend tries to molest her, while another man approaches them and tells Shuly that no one will marry her because of her dark skin. The comment hurt Shuly, and he ran away.

In 2022, he started working as a school teacher at Vivek Vidyalaya & Junior College in Goregaon (West), but he left his job within 7 months to prepare for a calisthenics competition. In January 2023, he participated in the Barberian Competition and came second in the Guns & Roses category.

In 2023, he appeared as a contestant on Season 19 of MTV Roadies. In the audition, she was assigned to the team of group leader Rhea Chakraborty.
