Chilling video shows the moment a suspect set fire to the outside of a joint Jewish-Japanese restaurant in Williamsburg, in what police are calling an antisemitic hate crime.
The incident happened on Nov. 18 shortly after 4 a.m. in front of the Shalom Japanese restaurant on South 4th Street, police said Friday.
Surveillance video shows a man walk into the diner and set fire to two window tarps outside that police say display images of the Jewish Star of David.
In the footage, the bearded and bespectacled arsonist is seen casually walking back and forth as smoke begins to spread.
The firebug then took off on foot toward Rodney Street and South 5th Street, according to police.
No injuries were reported and there was no structural damage to the building housing the restaurant as a result of the fire.

“The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating this as an anti-Jewish incident,” police confirmed.
Opened in 2013, Shalom Japan is touted by the Michelin guide as an “inspired” South Williamsburg spot that “finds its culinary niche in mixing Japanese and Ashkenazi Jewish dishes,” including dishes like matzoh ball ramen and lox bowls with avocado rice and sushi.
The arson suspect is described as a man with dark skin and a thin build. He was last seen wearing black shoes, a baseball cap and a long jacket.
The incident comes as there has been a dramatic increase in antisemitic attacks in New York City since the outbreak of war between Israel and Hamas in October.
