Simone Biles Breaks 90-year-record With Eight All-around Title Win At US Championships

Simone Biles proves once again that she is the greatest gymnast of all time, and fans can’t get enough!

As the world knows, the award-winning athlete made a glorious comeback to competitive gymnastics earlier this month, with an unsurprising win at the 2023 US Classic following a nearly two-year hiatus.

A few weeks after that feat, Biles added another elusive victory by breaking the nine-decade record for most all-around titles, achieving an impressive eighth title at the US Championships.

The 26-year-old Biles is heading to next year’s Paris Olympics as she has hit a winning streak since returning to gymnastics.

The legendary gymnast recently won a “record eighth title” at the USA Gymnastics Championships, a decade after dominating the industry as a teenage phenom.

The seven-time Olympic medalist posted a two-day total of 118.40, four points ahead of runner-up Shilese Jones, while Florida teenager Leanne Wong was third, boosting her chances of making the US world championships team.

As the audience watched, Biles captivated the SAP Center in San Jose, California, with a soaring floor routine, including an unwavering landing, Aljazeera reported. It was his last event in the competition, prompting overjoyed fans to stand up as he scored 15,400 points, breaking the record for most titles for men or women, set by Alfred Jochim.

Jochim won seven titles between 1925 and 1933 when the Amateur Athletic Union ran the tournament, and in 2021, Biles will match his record. The Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient’s new record marks his second win since his return, nearly two years after leaving the 2021 Tokyo Olympics due to mental health issues.

Many may remember that she withdrew because of “twisties”, a term used to describe when gymnasts lose their sense of where they are in the air. After her US Championship success, Biles will head to Antwerp at the end of September, where she will likely add to her medal collection — Ω 25 in total — from her successful career.

Biles’ impressive new records and accomplishments recall her victory at the US Classic Championships. She earned an overall score of 59.10, a full five points ahead of runner-up Leanne Wong — and more than two points ahead of Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade’s total for the 2022 world championship.

Speaking to the press after the successful event, Biles said, “Do I look like I’m having fun? Oh, thank God. I think I’m going to do it – bricks, but that’s good.”

The four-time Olympic gold medalist mentioned that he feels very good “about his mental and physical condition,” adding, “I still think there are some things to work on, [mistakes] all night in my routine. But for a first meeting, I would say it went well.”

Competition watchers certainly agreed with him as they saw him pull off at least one skill that bears his name, as well as Yurchenko’s famous double vault.

Biles explained that she had always planned to return to competition since the Tokyo Olympics episode, predicting, “It’s like a mental injury, you know? So something like that, with the right work and the right help, I know I can come back and hope to try.”

As for how she feels about twisting on air given her past “twisties,” the Ohio native responded, “I still feel a little nervous, but I think it’s just subconscious. Other than that, I know my body is capable and ready and all that that, so I just have to trust my training.”

“It always gets in the way… mentally & physically – but this happens…. BABY!!! Turn around at any event. ? Mainly because when that happens, you go straight to the gym & work on it.”
