Simon’s hit song has had a viral resurgence in recent weeks on TikTok, with a little help from Kate Hudson!
“You’re So Vain,” featuring backing vocals from Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, was prominently featured in the 2003 rom-com starring Hudson and Matthew McConaughey. Hudson’s character Andie Anderson strives to write memorable articles as a reporter for her magazine assignment, which inspires an unintended romance with McConaughey’s advertising executive character, Benjamin Berry.
Andie performed “You’re So Vain” twice and included her own lyrics. In one performance, she perfected the lyrics, “and other girls dream that they’ll be Ben’s mate, they’ll be Ben’s mate…”
This particular refrain has become a popular TikTok sound in recent times, with users creating countless TikToks around the song!

Hudson appeared on a recent episode of TODAY where she discussed the viral buzz and effects of “How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days.”
“That was a lot of fun, and I thought that [line] had adlibbed, they were going to be Ben’s partner” Hudson explained, “A lot of the movie was me just going crazy. It’s like getting that character and just chasing it.”
Hudson also revealed last month that he and McConaughey would be game to do a sequel if the idea presented itself!
“We both feel the same way about it,” he says, “if for some reason a good idea comes across our desk and it’s a good read, yes I’ll totally revise it. I love working with Matthew.” Regarding the film’s potential plot, Hudson theorized, “I don’t know, I’m sure it’s going to start with a domestic conflict. Or maybe, I don’t know. ‘How To Lose Your Husband In 20 Years?’

The Instagram account @commentsbycelebs reposted a TikTok containing footage of Simon responding to “You’re So Vain” that appeared on TikTok earlier on Tuesday.
Simon was seen watching a TikTok containing a compilation of scenes from the film, raised his arms in glee, and shouted “Fantastic!”
The @commentsbycelebs post also featured a screenshot of Hudson’s reaction to the video. He commented on the heart face emoji!
