Singer Santigold Cancels Tour Citing Inflation & Mental Health Struggles

Santigold fans, unfortunately, will have to wait to see him join the tour, as he recently canceled an anticipated 2022 tour.

The quirky artist took to Instagram to share the sad news and wrote a heartfelt letter, informing fans of the reasons: inflation and mental health challenges, while trying to make it work but couldn’t.

Santigold Shares Apology Letter On Social Media For Canceling Holified Tour

Santigold at the 2019 Outside Lands Music And Arts Festival in Golden Gate Park on August 10, 2019 in San Francisco, CaliforniaMEGA

“I am deeply sorry to announce the cancellation of my Holified Tour,” the American singer captioned her post announcing the cancellation, adding, “Please read the attached letter or click the link in bio to read the full letter detailing this announcement.” The letter he refers to is the second of two pictures he uploaded; the first is a promotional photo of his tour. Santigold’s note begins:

“Dear friends, I am saddened and proud to announce my decision to cancel the Holified Tour.”

He later explained why he was saddened by his broken heart to disappoint his fans, who have consistently shown love and support for his career. The brilliant songwriter also does not want to disappoint those who have bought tickets and planned a trip to see his performance. And thinking about that disappointment, he felt it “deep” in the pit of his stomach.

He went on to express his excitement to be back with his fans in person to “celebrate and bring the music of this new record to life,” knowing that without them, he would never have been able to create as much art as he has.

However, he noted that in recent years, people have experienced “huge challenges, some physical, some mental, some spiritual, some economic,” from which some are still trying to recover.

Santigold also points out that most of the experience is ignored as everyone rushes back in, trying to “make up for lost time, reconnect, catch up on unpaid bills, to escape the madness that has set in.”

The situation affected him even as a touring musician who did not anticipate the new reality that awaited the post-pandemic world. He shared, “After sitting idle (unable to perform) for the last few years, many of us like everyone else, earning no or little during that time, every musician who could, rushed out immediately when it was deemed safe to perform.”

Such musicians are faced with “high inflation” and “devastating financial consequences,” causing some to find themselves unable to make it. And in his case, he “tried and tried,” considering every angle to make it work, but couldn’t. He also plans to explain more later because he believes it’s important for people to know what artists go through.

The condition was admitted to affect her as she suffered from “anxiety, insomnia, fatigue, vertigo, chronic pain” and missed out on “important” time with her children. Santigold went on to mention that her current position in the music industry feels like she’s surviving, “trying to get to the finish line that’s always far away, but my vehicle has broken down the whole time.”

He often feels like giving up but never does, even with frustration. So, he used his honesty to tell fans that he was proud to cancel the tour to stop sacrificing himself for an “unsustainable” industry.

“High Priests” Star Explains More About The Narrative Behind “Spirituals”

Earlier this month and ahead of the release of Santigold’s latest album “Spirituals,” he was interviewed by Paper Magazine, to which he revealed more specific details about the musical piece.

When asked how the work started and finally came together, he revealed that in 2019, while going through some of his creations, he told himself that he would make a new album.

And when the epidemic hit, with a family crisis on top of environmental issues, he found himself sitting down with a song he’d written before, and “everything just flowed so quickly.”

During the conversation, the 46-year-old was asked what she hopes people take away from her music compilation, and she named a few things, including her desire for people to “feel empowered to explore.”

Santigold also said people need to connect and be present in their relationships with each other on earth, living in harmony, which he believes his album can communicate, among other things.
