Sister-in-law of American Airlines flight attendant found dead in hotel room with ‘cloth’ in her mouth ‘shocked’ over her death

The sister-in-law of the American Airlines flight attendant who was found suffocated at a Philadelphia airport hotel is in disbelief over the mysterious death earlier this week, saying she has grown more distant since her husband’s death.

Cleaning staff at the Philadelphia Airport Marriott room found Diana Ramos, 66, in her room “unresponsive and with a cloth stuffed over her mouth” late Monday afternoon, Philadelphia Police confirmed to The Post.

A staff member called 911 and medics arrived about 10:40 p.m. before pronouncing her dead a few minutes later.

“I was shocked that something like this could happen to him,” Helen Alaniz told PEOPLE. “It’s unbelievable because she looks so sweet.”

Ramos has worked for the airline for 25 years and was in Philadelphia on a layover after a flight from Los Angeles.

Alaniz, the sister of Ramos’ husband, Raymond, said the flight attendant and her husband were not always around because of his job, but he became distant after her death in 2021.

“They pretty much keep to themselves,” he said. “Because of his schedule and flights, he’s not always available.”

“Since my brother died, after that we never got any words from him,” added Alaniz. “I’ll call her phone number and leave her [a] message, because I want to hear about what he is going to do, is he going to stay in the country or move somewhere else?”

Ramos was expected to check out of his room on Friday — two days before he was found, which has raised several questions for the hotel and the airline.

“Everyone is still trying to figure out what happened and why the crew just left him,” an unidentified American Airlines flight attendant told People, revealing that Ramos’ crew was based in Los Angeles.

Alaniz said Ramos’ death comes during a month when his family honors other relatives.

“I don’t know how that could happen to him,” she said before telling the magazine that her brother, Raymond, and their parents died in September.

Ramos’ body was taken to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.

Autopsy results are pending but Ramos “suffered sudden death,” Chief Inspector Scott Small told NBC10.

Police added there were no signs of forced entry or a struggle and no weapons were found.

Several sealed prescription bottles were found in the room and police and investigators revealed he was using several medications.
