“Our relationship may have an expiration date” was one of Janelle Brown’s many tearful declarations recently about the end of her polygamous marriage.
The “Sister Wives” star broke down as she reflected on her longtime bond with Kody Brown and how their spiritual encounter may have been destined to end. Despite losing the beautiful relationship she once had with the polygamist, the Plexus salesperson admits that she would do it again.
Janelle Brown Says Her Marriage To Kody Brown Wasn’t A Mistake
The latest episode of TLC’s reality TV series about polygamous families is an emotional rollercoaster full of tears and broken hearts. The network shared a teaser clip of the 12th episode for the 18th season, “The Elephant in the Room,” recalling how Janelle became Kody’s second wife.
The YouTube video begins with the social media influencer’s frustrated expression during his confessional segment. Janelle was visibly teary-eyed as she recounted the first time she laid eyes on Kody, a moment she owes to her longtime friend and fellow “Sister Wives” co-star Meri Brown.

“I was friends with Meri’s family long before she met Kody. She wanted me to come meet her new boyfriend, so I was there, and he walked in the room, and it was like I remembered,” the mother of six recalled before giving an insightful description of her fateful encounter. In Janelle’s words:
“It’s like when you see someone you haven’t seen in a long time. There’s all these emotions like ‘Oh, it’s you,’ you know that feeling, and I had that feeling as soon as I saw him walk in the room.”
For those who don’t understand how Janelle could fall in love at first sight with Kody, the scene switches to pictures of the patriarch. In his younger days, the polygamist could easily blow anyone away with his charming looks, and he managed to steal the hearts of four — Meri, Janelle, Christine, and Robyn Brown.
Continuing her love story, the media personality explained that Kody would playfully suggest that she join his family, a narrative supported by the patriarch. In a separate confession, the polygamist admitted to “flirting” with Janelle, talking to her a lot, and smiling at her.
As memories of Janelle brought tears to his eyes, Kody couldn’t help but smile as he reflected on his romance with the TV personality. The couple finally entered into their spiritual marriage following the realization of Harta’s agent that he should be a member of a polygamous family.
Now, at the end of her marriage, the 54-year-old insists she has no regrets. Although she never signed up for the dissolution of her vows to Kody, Janelle understands the couple’s love may have reached its limits. With a choked voice, the mother of six said:
“I know I didn’t make a mistake marrying him. I would do it again. I don’t think things like this have an expiration date, but it looks like our relationship might have an expiration date.”
Kody Brown Fails To Reconcile With Janelle Brown
A month before Janelle rekindled her romance with Kody, the TV personality tried to rekindle her romance with the mother of six. In the October episode of “Sister Wives,” the polygamist tries to resolve the couple’s differences on her birthday.
Kody goes all out for the celebration, taking Janelle to a fancy Arizona restaurant. Despite the cheerful demeanor they celebrated during their dinner, the 54-year-old shared a different perspective in her confession, saying:
“I don’t think there’s much of a way forward for Kody and me. We’re just different people now. He thinks differently. He was very, very busy with the children at Robyn’s house. Robyn and he were of the same mind. They want to live the same life. And I’m really looking for a relationship where I’m treated as an equal.”
The romantic night takes a turn for the worse when Kody tries to get a kiss goodnight, a desire Janelle is not interested in fulfilling. In her confessional, the media personality stated that holding hands with her former lover “doesn’t feel right anymore.”
Her lack of interest did not escape the attention of the patriarch, who replied, “I don’t know why we can’t make peace. So we fight bad, we are worse. So we broke up, we had another breakup.” However, Janelle stood firm against reconciliation, saying:
“You know, there’s nothing else there. Just not there. Our relationship has unraveled over the years.”
