“Sister Wives” star Janelle Brown is defending her children, Gabe and Garrison, against their father, Kody Brown.
With the TLC personality now split from her ex Kody, with whom she has six children, she is taking the split in stride and starting a new life. However, “Sister Wives” season 18 returns on Sunday, August 20, has begun to revisit the fall in the Brown family.
The season premiere episode of the TLC reality series shows the rift between the patriarch and his four wives—three of whom (Janelle, Meri, and Christine) are no longer sister wives—and his two children.
Janelle Brown Supports Her Kids Over Kody Brown
In an episode of the show, the 54-year-old spoke about the rift between some of his children and his ex. The mother of six was hanging out with Christine Brown and some of her children when the topic of the holiday came up.
“Kody still feels like the boys need to talk to him or whatever, so we broke up,” Janelle said of Gabe and Garrison before confirming she won’t be spending the holiday with the extended family at Fourth wife Robyn Brown’s house. He then said:
“Kody feels like they owe him and some kind of conversation and stuff out of disrespect,” calling the situation a “disagreement. I’ve always said I chose my son before Kody. What I’m going to do, go over to Robyn’s house and hang out with Robyn’s kids and Mary and Kody?”

Meanwhile, in a confessional, Kody explained that he didn’t want to have a vacation experience without having a chance to “clear the air” beforehand. In his words:
“If something political or something about COVID or my own experience with it comes up, and we end up turning into an angry conversation.” Adding, “That’s a piece of crap I’m not going to bring into my home for the holidays.”
In Christine’s confession, she expressed concern that her breakup with Kody was causing stress, saying:
“Kody told me that I broke the family up like it was my fault that the family broke up. friends? If my relationship with my sister’s wives is up to me and it’s my fault that I have a bad relationship with my sister’s wife, how is it not your fault that you have a bad relationship with your children?”
Speaking of moving on quietly, In December, Janelle shared insight into her plans to start living a healthy lifestyle, barely a day after publicly announcing her split from Kody.
She took to Instagram to share video updates about her ongoing health goals heading into the new year. The video, apparently centered around his progress, includes scenes of him lifting heavy weights at the gym.
“At what point do you decide it’s time…time to put your health first,” Janelle wrote throughout the post. “Because this has been a game changer. I’m coming for you 2023.” The reality star also echoed similar sentiments in the post’s caption, adding that she plans to not give up on her health plan.

The caption read: “I’m ready for you, 2023! The health journey I have been on has been amazing. The results aren’t overnight, and I’m okay with that. It’s all about slow and steady winning the race. 2023 is my year!”
Kody Brown Doesn’t Want Marriage Anymore
Unlike Janelle, Kody doesn’t break up easily, including with his other wife, and to that end, he says he has “no reason” to get married again. Instead, he will stick to Robyn, the wife he left behind.
In an interview with People’s Magazine, he discusses life after losing three wives. Kody talks about how polygamy is actually “really hard.” The 51-year-old, who is now monogamous, says his plans for the future have changed.
“The idea of getting married again after my experience, there is no reason for me to do that. I felt like I hit the bottom of a deep pool, but I pushed through and headed for the surface,” he explained.
The reality TV star also spoke of plural marriage as “very difficult.” But despite insisting that he doesn’t want another wife, Kody still supports polygamy and plural relationships.
