A sixth teenager has been arrested in connection with the brutal mob beating of a student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, the site of one of the worst school shootings in the nation’s history.
Coral Springs police arrested Anthony Casseus, 15, Thursday after asking for the public’s help in locating him.
“Thanks to everyone who helped us!” said police in a Facebook post.
The statue comes after a video went viral of a victim being attacked from all sides in a Parkland, Florida, school parking lot on December 12.
The unidentified victim suffered a fractured skull and other injuries.
Five teenagers were charged with felony battery in connection with the attack before the last suspect was arrested late Thursday.
A sixth suspect in the brutal beating was arrested on Thursday. Anthony Casseus, 15, does not face felony battery charges.
The horrific incident rekindled difficult memories at the school, where gunman Nikolas Cruz shot and killed 14 students and three staff members on Valentine’s Day 2018.
He was sentenced to 17 life terms last year for the massacre.
Parents — including the parents of the Parkland victims — criticized administrators last week for trying to distance themselves from the attack by emphasizing that it technically happened off campus.
Fred Guttenberg, whose son was killed during Cruz’s rampage, said students deserve to feel safe not just at school — but all around them.
The unidentified victim suffered a fractured skull.
“For years since the shooting I’ve referred that real school safety involves what happens outside that perimeter,” he said. “And I was talking specifically about that parking lot.”
The five teenagers who are already in custody have been identified by police as Sylvester Hicks, 16, Jahmeer Beauziel, 17, Caleb Hensley, 17, Jordan Thompson, 16, and Chinua Leefatt, 15.
Four are students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas and the fifth attends nearby Coral Glades High School.
The student was left unconscious after the mob beat.
It is unclear whether Caseus was enrolled at Stoneman Douglas.
In an email to parents last week, school principal Michelle Kefford said she would seek the expulsion of students involved in the attack.
“We are also doing everything we can through the district process to ensure these students do not return to our campus,” he wrote in the message.
