‘SNL’ faces calls to apologize for sketch that mocked Elise Stefanik — instead of university presidents

“Saturday Night Live” is facing growing calls to apologize — and even to be formally investigated — for its deafening sketch of a university president who refused to denounce calls for the genocide of Jews.

“This is really horrible,” Dr. Sara Yael Hirschhorn, “historian of Israel and the Jews” and a visiting professor at the University of Haifa in Israel, wrote about Saturday’s cold opening.

“NBC do you think antisemitism is acceptable as a joke about American society?” the historian asked.

“This needs to be investigated by the parties [Federal Communications Commission],” he insisted, signaling the federal agency.

Many demanded an apology for the sketch, which poked fun at Rep. US Elise Stefanik (R-NY) for demanding that university leaders respond to outrage over their failure to denounce calls for the genocide of Jews on campus.

“After a day of well-deserved backlash, one would have thought SNL would have deleted this video and apologized for their antisemitism,” business attorney Krista Nicole posted on X

NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” kicked off this weekend with a sketch featuring newcomer Chloe Troast as Rep. Elise Stefanik as she questioned the presidents of Harvard, Penn and MIT whether calls for the genocide of Jews violated their schools’ code of conduct. SNL/NBC

“This is really disgusting. What’s funny about Elise Stefanik calling out antisemitism?

“What a slap in the face to Jews everywhere,” Nicole wrote.

Meanwhile, Podcaster Lionel said he was “overjoyed at what appears to be an emergence of common sense and radical good sense in calling out the obvious-t” on the so-called skit.

“SNL has been in impostor status as a comedy show for decades,” he said.

“It’s time for Lorne Michaels to apologize. And disappeared.”

The Post has reached out to “Saturday Night Live” for comment.

Saturday’s show began with a sketch featuring newcomer Chloe Troast as Stefanik, targeting her line of questioning during Tuesday’s House Education Committee hearing, when she asked the presidents of Harvard, the University of Pennsylvania and MIT whether calls for the genocide of Jews violated their schools. code of conduct

“I’m going to start yelling questions at this woman like Billy Eichner,” Troast said in the video.

“Antisemitism – yay or nay?” he yelled at the three women. “Yes or no! Is calling for the genocide of Jews against the code of conduct for Harvard?

Troast’s Stefanik later claimed, “I’m here today because hate speech has no place on a college campus.

“The hate speech belongs in Congress, on Elon Musk’s Twitter, at private dinners with my donors and in public speeches by my working husband, Donald Trump.”

Almost immediately after it was posted, the sketch was condemned online as antisemitic.

“Only hateful anti-Semitic SNL could do a sketch about an anti-Semitic college president testifying before Congress and make Congressman Stefanik’s questioner the target of the sketch,” radio host Mark Simone tweeted.

Meghan McCain also wrote that “there has been a 400% increase in antisemitic hate crimes since October 7th, and SNL thinks it’s funny.
