Snoop Dogg Announces Cancellation Of Hollywood Bowl Show In Support Of SAG Strike

Snoop Dogg shows solidarity for the writers and actors strike that is going on in his way!

With the WGA and SAG-AFTRA locked out, it’s been hell for everyone in the entertainment business. TV projects are being discouraged, the future of both industries is increasingly uncertain, and tens of thousands of people are out of work – including Snoop Dogg, who recently canceled two of his upcoming concerts. The cancellation of his big LA concert was entirely symbolic.

In about four months, “Doggystyle,” Dogg’s acclaimed 1993 debut album, will reach its 30th anniversary, but the West Coast rap legend won’t be commemorating the occasion with two big shows like he originally planned. The Grammy-nominated artist is set to perform a highly anticipated performance at the Hollywood Bowl. The concert will be produced by Dr. Dre, producer of “Doggystyle”.

However, performances by “Snoop Dogg & Friends,” originally postponed from June to October 20 and 21 in support of the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike, were officially canceled for the same reason. The rapper’s post reads:

“We continue to stand in solidarity with all our brothers and sisters at the WGA and SAG-AFTRA during this difficult time and remain hopeful that AMPTP will return to the negotiating table with the REAL proposal and we can all get back to work. .”

As expected, many of his followers, who took to the comments, were saddened by the canceled show; however, others praised him for showing genuine support. One fan commented: “Would love to help but you’re heartbroken canceling on us.

Another fan said, “Congratulations, Snoop! A man of the people! ✊?,” while a third praised, “So much love and respect for Uncle Snoop. You are a cultural force, and your support means a lot.” A fourth commenter sweetly shared, “I admire you now more than ever!! Sorry about your show. You are the best ❤️ ?.”

Around the time the 51-year-old rapper canceled his show in June, the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists voted overwhelmingly in favor of allowing the strike.

According to The Blast, union leaders began negotiations ahead of new TV and theater contract negotiations with AMPTP. The permanent SAG-AFTRA contract with AMPTP expires at midnight on June 30, 2023.

According to a SAG-AFTRA statement, 97.91% of voting members voted “Yes” in support of the strike. Nearly 65,000 members cast ballots for a voting percentage of 47.69% of the union’s eligible votes.

The authorization means that, as early as July 1, the SAG-AFTRA National Board can move to authorize a strike, since they have received a majority vote of the voting body that decided in favor of the strike.

The strike authorization does not mean the union will definitely call for a strike, but the National Board is now free to initiate one if a new agreement is not reached with the AMPTP. However, SAG-AFTRA declared a strike on July 13.

Days after the strike began, SAG-AFTRA Foundation President Courtney B. Vance and executive director Cyd Wilson sat down and, together, drafted a letter to the union’s 2,700 highest-paid actors— including Dwayne Johnson, Leonardo DiCaprio and Chris Hemsworth.

The letter talks about the financial needs that many will face during layoffs and asks for help. Of course, as soon as the letter reached the “Skyscraper” actor, his team contacted the president of the foundation and offered immediate help.

The Blast stated that the amount was in the seven figures, but Vance did not reveal the exact amount. Vance described his conversation with Johnson as a “love fest.” He recalled telling the former wrestler, “It was like, ‘Man, you’re stepping up in a way that lets other people know there’s a really important need for that.'”

He was also praised because he said, “This is him who said, ‘In a time like this, I’m here, and I’m not going anywhere, whatever you need me to do.’ And that sends a big message to other people to do the same.”
