Snowboarder stuck overnight for 15 hours on ski gondola at Lake Tahoe resort; ‘desperately’ screamed for help until she lost her voice

A snowboarder spent 15 hours trapped overnight in a ski gondola at a Lake Tahoe resort – and had to rub his hands and feet to stay warm, a report said.

Monica Laso is on a ski trip with her friends at Paradise Ski Resort.

He was at the top of the mountain and directed to the gondola around 5pm Thursday after he told a worker he was too tired to run again.

Two minutes after disembarking, the gondola suddenly stopped, leaving Laso stranded in the air as the sun set over the horizon.

“I don’t have a phone, lights or anything,” Laso told KCRA in Spanish.

Unable to call for help, she said she screamed to every resort employee she saw — but they couldn’t hear her.

“I screamed so desperately that I lost my voice,” Laso said.

He spent hours in the freezing cold rubbing his hands and feet for warmth, he said.

Laso’s friends reported him missing to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office when they couldn’t find him, according to the outlet.

The crew didn’t realize he was there until the next day when the gondola started working again and he went down at the bottom.

“I feel very disappointed,” said Laso.

He was evaluated and treated by South Lake Tahoe Fire and Rescue before he was released, according to agency spokeswoman Kim George.

George told KCRA this is the first time they’ve answered a call like this in over 20 years.

Vail Resorts, which operates Heavenly, said in a statement: The safety and well-being of our guests is our top priority at Heavenly Mountain Resort. We are investigating this situation very seriously.”
