Sofia Vergara Settles Lawsuit Over New Netflix Show ‘Griselda’

In the filing, the children of the late Griselda Blanco have dismissed the lawsuit with prejudice. This means that the family cannot re-file the same claim in court.

Perhaps the two sides have settled, but there is no evidence that there was an exchange of money between the “Modern Family” actress and the Blanco children. Remember that we broke the news about the lawsuit against Vergara and Netflix that was filed days before the crime drama was set to premiere.

In court documents, Griselda’s children are asking for an injunction to block the show’s release, arguing that Netflix is ripping off their family’s story and inserting it into their show’s plot without permission. According to the late drug kingpin’s son, Michael, several men allegedly approached him to interview him about his story and his mother.

The talks reportedly took place between 2009 and 2022, with producers asking to develop his mother’s story into a book and show and promising to promote it around Hollywood in 2016. True to their word, they pitched it to producers and then met with Netflix about the project.

Michael claims the streaming giant is interested in making a show about Griselda. However, they refused to use his narrative or any of the negotiations from the interviews he had done. Unfortunately, Michael claims Netflix betrayed him and he learned that their upcoming “Griselda” series used his narrative and much of the material he provided without crediting him for the information or paying him.

In the lawsuit, Griselda’s children insisted that the show should not have been released because depicting their images without their permission violated their rights. Netflix’s “Griselda” tells the story of a notorious drug lord often hailed as the “Mother of Cocaine.”

To portray the drug lord, Vergara shed her comedic image for a tougher exterior to embody La Jefa.

Sofia Vergara Sued Over Unpaid Home Renovation Project

Although Vergara appears to have settled with the Blanco family, she still has another lawsuit hanging over her head. Last November, the Colombian actor was sued for allegedly skipping money owed on some home improvements.

The 51-year-old is accused of failing to pay contractors more than $1.7 million for a major renovation of his Beverly Hills home. Vergara’s legal filing demands the services of Reside Custom Homes [RCH] in April 2022 for construction work on his property and agreed to pay compensation for the contractor’s work and fees.

However, the “America’s Got Talent” judges failed to honor the agreement once construction was completed. The plaintiff alleges that although the project was essentially completed by December 2022, Vergara allegedly requested substantial additional work beyond the initially agreed upon scope.

As a result, the project was extended until March 2023 when the mother of one finally moved back into the luxury residence.

The construction company claims Vergara requested additional work, including installing clay plaster in three powder rooms, an office, a cabana bathroom, a dining room wall, and the guest house’s living room. He also reportedly asked the company to remove and replace the stairs, all of which they claimed he had covered the cost of.

Although the “Hot Pursuit” actress assured the company about settling her bills and mentioned that she had approved an invoice of nearly $900,000, RCH claims Vergara failed to meet her commitments.
