Sona Mohapatra was born on Thursday, 17 June 1976 (age 47 years; in 2023) in the city of Cuttack Odisha. His zodiac sign is Gemini.
He did his schooling from Kendra Vidhyalaya, Bhubaneshwar. He obtained B. Tech in Instrumentation and Electronics Engineering from College of Engineering and Technology, Bhubaneswar, and MBA in Marketing from Symbiosis Center of Management & HRD, Pune. He has pursued training in Indian Classical Music.

Career
Sona Mohapatra started her career as a brand manager at Marico (an Indian consumer goods and services company), where she managed brands like Parachute and Mediker. He left his job and started looking for opportunities to make his career in the Indian music industry. He started his singing career by singing jingles for commercials. Some of his famous works are Tata Salt -“Kal Ka Bharat Hai” and Unilever’s Close Up campaign -‘Paas Aao Na’. The song was recorded in several languages and aired in 13 countries for 4 consecutive years.

She made her Bollywood debut as a singer with the song “Lori” from the movie “Family” in 2006.
In 2007, he released his first album “Sona” with Sony Records.
He has sung several hit songs including “I Hate You (Like I Love You),” “Naina,” “Chori Chori,” and “Bahara.” Out of all his hit songs, “Ambarsariya” from “Fukrey” is his most famous song.
Controversy
- In 2016, in an open letter on facebook, he criticized IIT Bombay, for their blatant sexism against female artists. In her letter, she claims that the institute approached her to sing in their Annual Cultural Festival, Mood Indigo. However, they put a condition that she can’t perform alone but should team up with any male artist.
- In 2018, during the ongoing MeToo movement in India, she accused Kailash Kher of sexually harassing her and also labeled Anu Malik a ‘Serial Predator.’
- In 2018, faced severe criticism in Odisha after he sang the devotional song “Ahe Nila Saila,” written by the poet saint, Bhakta Salabega, in the 17th century. The Odia said that he had mispronounced many words in the song including the poet’s name. Moreover, they questioned her choice to dress for the service. In response to her haters, she tweeted that they should shut up or she’ll strip. His sentence sparked outrage across the country. An FIR was filed against him and his effigy was burnt on the street.
- In 2019, he slammed Salman Khan for criticizing Priyanka Chopra for leaving the film “Bharat (2019).” Following that, he received death threats from one of Salman’s fans. The next day, Sona shared a screenshot of the troll, who apologized for his behavior towards Sona.
