Sonia Sanwalka is an Indian author. She is known for being the daughter of the popular Indian athlete Milkha Singh.

Sonia Sanwalka was born in Chandigarh. Her family has its roots in Pakistan. Her father moved from Muzaffargarh city in Punjab Province, British India (now Muzaffargarh District, Pakistan) to India after the Partition of India. Her mother was born in Sheikhupura, Punjab (now part of Pakistan), and later, moved to India after the partition.

Career
In 2012, Sonia Sanwalka co-authored his father’s autobiography “The Race of My Life: An Autobiography: A Poetic Journey” along with her father, Milkha Singh. The book was published on 11 September 2021 by Rupa Publications. The book received mixed reviews from the audience and critics.
In 2013, Sonia authored the Punjabi edition of his father’s autobiography, which was titled “Bhag Milkha Bhag.”
She has also released the Gujarati edition of the book “Bhag Milkha Bhag – Milkha Sinhni Aatmakatha” (2014).
Later, a Bollywood film “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag” was released in 2013 which was inspired by Sonia’s book titled “The Race of My Life: An Autobiography: A Poetic Journey.”
Facts/Trivia
- Sonia has a brother whom her father adopted in 1999. Milkha Singh had adopted the seven-year-old son of Havildar Bikram Singh, who died in the Battle of Tiger Hill.
- Her mother, Nirmal Kaur, died of Covid-19 on 13 June 2021.
- Her father, Milkha Singh, passed away on 18 June 2021 (5 days after his wife’s death) after a month-long battle with Covid-19. Reportedly he recovered from Covid-19 and later developed complications including fever and dropping oxygen saturation levels.
