Sophie Turner and her ex-husband, Joe Jonas, appear to have settled custody issues, prompting Turner to seek dismissal of her “child abduction” claim from 2023.
According to legal documents obtained by The Blast, the exes urged the judge in their federal case in New York, which Turner initially filed in September, to dismiss the entire action.

On Tuesday, January 16, Turner filed a “court order of dismissal without pay,” essentially indicating a mutual agreement with her to dismiss the “child abduction” case, primarily based on custody arrangements settled in a United Kingdom court.
Citing the parenting plan she and members of the Jonas Brothers agreed to in October, the filing reads:
“Whereas, on October 8, 2023, the parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Parenting Plan, among other things, related to all matters related to the parties’ two minor children, WRJ and DMJ.”

The unsigned document claims that since both parties expressed their agreement through the signatures of their attorneys, the case should be dismissed “with prejudice, and without attorney’s fees, expenses, costs and/or disbursements awarded to either party.”
By having the case dismissed with prejudice, Turner has forfeited the right to re-litigate the same claim again in the court where it was originally filed.
While formal judicial approval is pending, the issue could be resolved in practice — an important development given the initial drama when Turner first sought court action under child abduction laws.
When she invoked the law last year, the mother-of-two claimed Jonas withheld their children’s passports and prevented them from visiting her. The move soon escalated the issue to the federal level, attracting the attention of US authorities.
Moreover, Turner insisted that, as a family, they had decided England would be their permanent home. However, as the “Leave Before You Love Me” hitmaker reportedly held the children in New York amid their recent divorce filing, he claims his actions violated international child abduction laws.
Since then, the former couple have found common ground, temporarily settling custody matters amid their ongoing divorce.
Jonas And Turner Previously Opted For Private Custody Mediation
After making headlines for reaching a temporary custody agreement in New York in October, recently obtained court documents by The Blast reveal that the two are planning private mediation.

Amid ongoing legal battles in Florida, Miami, and the UK, they agreed to dismiss the Miami case, leaving the option to reactivate it in the future if necessary.
In their filing, Jonas and Turner committed to resolving all other matters through private mediation rather than pursuing them in court. With this approach, they intend to keep the details confidential, as court fights usually make documents and information public.
Looking ahead, they also expressed their dedication to achieving “an amicable resolution” of all issues. As part of this agreement, Jonas is expected to file a notice of dismissal for claims related to parenthood.
The couple is then scheduled to return to New York City on January 2 to finalize their custody arrangements after agreeing to temporary vacation plans. According to the latest interim consent order, Turner has custody of their two daughters, Willa and Delphine, from October 9 to October 21.
While Turner was with the girls, he was given the flexibility to take them to his home in the UK or any other location in the US or UK However, it was stipulated that both girls must return to NYC by October 21st. On that date, custody was transferred to Jonas, who had the children from October 21 to November 2.
While the girls are in his care, Jonas takes them trick-or-treating with them, wearing Prince Charming costumes. She was seen pushing three-year-old Willa and her one-year-old sister through the West Village in a princess-themed carriage.
Just like Turner, Jonas is allowed to take them with him all over the US, including on his tour, with performances scheduled in Austin, Texas, San Diego, California and Anaheim, California, during the time he has custody.
