A South Dakota woman pleaded guilty to making a false police report after she claimed her attacker raped her in Florida, police said.
Renee Dawn Skoglund, 30, was arrested in Sioux Falls on March 10 after reporting a sexual battery in Hillsborough County two days earlier.
He was charged with abusing the 911 system, falsely reporting a crime and fabricating physical evidence.
In the 911 audio released by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Skoglund claimed that he pulled over to the side of I-75 after experiencing car trouble.
She later reported that a male suspect placed a towel over her head, pushed her into a car and raped her while her hands and feet were tied.
Skoglund told police that a certain type of rope was used, and authorities discovered that the product was sold at a nearby Walmart store.
During a thorough search of a local Walmart location, police saw surveillance video of Skoglund purchasing the rope.
“Following this discovery, detectives recovered video from various locations Mrs. Skoglund visited during the attack, disproving her initial statement,” the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “[Skoglund] tried to change his statement before finally admitting to fabricating the whole incident.”

According to FOX 13 Tampa Bay, Skoglund – who was married at the time – faked the rape to get a free STD test.
“She had consensual intercourse with an individual in Hillsborough County,” prosecutor Jessica Couvertier said in court, according to FOX 13. “Then she felt guilty about it because of her marital status, and she wanted to be tested for sexually transmitted diseases.”
“This case is truly disappointing,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a press release in May. “There are too many victims who are faced with this type of trauma. This woman took advantage of our 911 emergency line and diverted attention from real victims who needed the viable resources available in this investigative scenario.”

Skoglund was sentenced to two years of community control — a form of house arrest — and eight years of probation, FOX 13 reported. He also owes the sheriff’s office $17,245.26 for the resources they spent investigating his report.
