There is a reason for snow to accelerate during winter storms.
Chilling dashcam footage captures the moment a driver in upstate New York nearly crashed into a snowplow after trying to pass another truck.
The plow was driving along a one-lane road in the North Country region when the semi-truck’s headlights appeared in the opposite direction with a black sedan riding alongside it.
The passenger car – planted right in the plow path – desperately tried to accelerate and pass the semi-truck, but couldn’t get enough pickup in the mud and snow of the narrow road.
That’s when the sedan spun, slamming its side and trunk straight into the plow.
Small pieces of the headlight and the black paint on the stem were seen flying in the air.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the horrific accident.
“Note to self: don’t try to pass when roads are covered in snow and slush,” New York Department of Transportation said to X.
A spokeswoman for the agency could not confirm where the crash occurred, but said the video “clarifies the need to drive carefully during snow and ice conditions.”

Upstate New York was covered in snow this week as a winter storm engulfed the state.
Snow fell at a rate of 3 inches per hour in some areas, while others struggled with 15 degree temperatures.
Winter weather advisories and travel bans are also in effect across the region in anticipation of icy road conditions.
