Spice Girls Shatter King Charles’ Hopes Of A Performance for Upcoming Coronation

Unfortunately, things did not go as planned for the upcoming British Royal Coronation ceremony starting on May 6 and lasting for about three days.

As preparations were being made, around five guest singers were cancelled, including the Spice Girls, whose reunion was highly anticipated, dashing the hopes of the soon-to-be-crowned King Charles III.

Spice Girls Will Not Attend King Charles’ Coronation Due To Busy Schedule

The coronation of King Charles and the Queen Mother, Camilla, is coming up in a few months, but the organizers of the event have suffered a setback in the music department as three more stars have turned down the invitation.

The Spice Girls, Elton John and Harry Styles have all canceled due to their “crazy busy schedules” just weeks after Ed Sheeran, Adele and Robbie Williams turned down invitations.

As The Sun recently revealed, the girl group won’t mind that training time clashes with “the jam-packed calendars of Mel B, Mel C, Geri Horner, Emma Bunton, and Victoria Beckham.” However, Olly Murs may save the day as he has been lined up to perform and plans to take time out between his tour dates for the King.

Alongside Murs, Take That’s Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, and Howard Donald will headline the Coronation concert, while Kylie and Dannii Minogue, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and the iconic Lionel Richie will feature.

According to a source, “The organizers are working around the clock to put together an exciting line-up but have faced a series of challenges.”

“Elton John was on Charles’ list, but due to his European tour, which saw him perform in Germany on the Friday before again immediately after the Windsor concert, he was unable to make the dash to the UK for work.”

The insider also mentioned that Styles is otherwise busy with a tour and can’t get his core band members together because they will be on a “much-needed break.”

As for Murs’ feature, event organizers are optimistic about his reception as they know he will be a “great addition” given his “incredible stage presence and huge fan base.” Meanwhile, fans will follow every action on the unforgettable day live on the BBC.

Despite the rejection from every corner, Jonathan Shalit OBE, an industry professional, believes the artist should be very excited to be part of the ceremony because it “will be one of the biggest honors in most acting lives.” He said, “It will be one of the most outstanding national events. It should be an amazing opportunity to bring the country together.”

Fans will no doubt be disappointed to hear The Spice Girls bail after weeks of high hopes following the announcement of a possible reunion of the ladies at the coronation event. The Blast reported late last month that after party planners included the British girl group in the lineup, they were seriously considering performing.

The show will mark their first performance together since the 2012 Olympics closing ceremony when Beckham left the band. According to a source, Royal promoters are “very keen” on getting a female performer as Mel B and Mel C try to carry out the show by convincing their bandmates.

Mel C once claimed that the group was unhappy for missing the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Concert last June, given their responsibilities and commitments. While in another interview, Mel B hinted that women would take the stage at an upcoming event, saying, “I’ll probably be told. It’s a project we’re really excited about. There are five of us.”

Adele And Ed Sheeran Turn Down Invitations To Perform At The King’s Coronation For Different Reasons

It is not only the Spice Girls who have greatly disappointed the king of the United Kingdom. As previously reported, King Charles included Adele and Ed Sheeran at the top of his list of people he wanted to perform at his coronation, but they both declined.

Sheeran explained that he will perform in Texas the day before the important event, making it difficult to fly to his homeland for another show. On the other hand, Adele did not provide an explanation and reportedly does not have any concerts booked after March 25, with no conflicting performances planned for May 7.

Given the update, a Royal insider stated that the two rejections were “embarrassing” to the Royal family as they are “showbiz giants” and “quintessentially British.”
