Spilled milk dyed a Virginia creek white — see the unbelievable pictures taken of the incident

The Lynchburg Fire Department responded to the most unusual call on February 3rd.

A creek has mysteriously turned white.

It was quickly determined that the creek, located near Westover Dairy, a dairy, had in fact been dyed by an “undetermined amount of milk waste” that had been accidentally released into the creek.

“A citizen called 9-1-1 this morning to report the creek near the 1300 block of Hendricks Street was almost completely white,” the Lynchburg Fire Department wrote on its Facebook page on Saturday, February 3.

Lynchburg is located in central Virginia, approximately 100 miles west of Richmond.

It is home to several colleges, including Liberty University.

The mystery of the white creek was quickly solved.

“Crews determined the cause was a blocked drain in Westover, which had allowed milk waste to overflow into the storm sewer and then into the creek,” the fire department said.

The fire department continued, “The lines were cleared and the overflow stopped.”

Water resources officials were informed about the incident, the department added.

And despite the alarming color of the water, everything seems to be fine.

“There is no public health threat,” the Lynchburg Fire Department said.

“At today’s retail prices, I’m running to the creek with a few gallon jugs!!” joked a Facebook user.

Others joked that now was the time to put some chocolate syrup in the creek to make the most of it.

Another Facebook user was more direct in his assessment of the situation, writing, “That sure stinks.”

There are no reports of anyone crying over spilled milk.
