Spooked Dems push for makeup, lighting fixes for Biden’s age as prez rails against Merrick Garland

Frantic Democrats are wringing their hands over a special counsel report accusing President Biden of being too old to be blamed for mishandling classified documents — with insiders even pushing for better makeup to hide the commander-in-chief’s advanced age. the re-election campaign went well despite his cognitive decline.

“The cake is already baked,” a grieving former Biden White House aide told The Post. “Most Democrats already feel that way about the president. They thought he was effective and a good person, but no one really wanted him to run. ..and the Democrats don’t have the guts to try and get him off the ticket.”

Longtime Democratic consultant James Carville said Biden’s mental state issues have hurt his chances in November to the point that a criminal conviction of Donald Trump, his likely opponent, is the president’s only hope.

“We’re officially in Hail Mary mode here,” Carville told The Hill Saturday.

Allies and operatives have flooded the White House with advice since Biden’s disastrous press conference on Thursday, when he blasted special counsel Robert Hur for describing him as “an old man with a failing memory.”

Some told the president to rethink his makeup routine, CNN reported, while others urged his staff to improve the lighting on his public appearances.

Others wanted Biden to begin his event sitting in a chair to avoid having to shuffle slowly to the podium — all in an effort to help the 81-year-old president sidestep questions about his age.

Meanwhile, two Republican medical doctors turned congressmen voiced their concerns on Saturday.

Rep. Gregory Murphy (R-NC), a former urologist, said he “witnessed a very fragile individual” when he saw Biden at the National Prayer Breakfast last week.

“His unsteady gait, his slow movements, and his weak voice point to the fact that he is in a weakened state,” Murphy told the Washington Examiner. “I do not believe he is fit to be president of the United States.”

“There is no denying that President Biden is mentally impaired and unfit to hold office,” said Rep. Scott DesJarlais (R-TN), a former general practitioner.

Behind the scenes at the White House, US Attorney General Merrick Garland emerged as a “villain” in the Biden administration report, Politico reported Friday.

Two people close to the president said Biden has spoken at length about Garland and believes he should have moved to “redact” parts of special counsel Robert Hur’s report that were politically damaging.

Although the report cleared Biden of official wrongdoing, his claims that he was too old and memory impaired to stand trial have rocked his presidency and cast doubt through his 2024 re-election campaign.

While Biden and his aides have vilified Hur as partisan — with many noting that the special counsel is a holdover from the old Republican and Trump era — they have publicly fired back at Garland. The Attorney General himself has been silent since the report was released.

“What the Democrats do is they bend over backwards to not look partisan, and then they end up hiring people who are partisan but the other way around,” said one Biden donor. “There is no question in my mind that the villain here is Merrick Garland.”

If Garland had edited Hur’s report, he would have been required to explain the changes to Congress, according to Politico.

Insiders say it’s unlikely Garland will return as Attorney General, should Biden win a second term. The president has been at odds with Garland for years, particularly over the Justice Department’s years-long investigation into his son, Hunter, the source said.

Garland has faced scrutiny by Republicans over her handling of the Hunter Biden investigation.

Multiple whistleblowers have now come forward to assert the DOJ improperly interceded to save the younger Biden from punishment on various criminal charges.
