‘Squad’ reps blasted for calling for ceasefire following Hamas attack on Israel

Members of Congress’ “Squad” were criticized for pushing for a ceasefire in the Middle East after Hamas fighters killed hundreds of Israelis Saturday in a surprise sneak attack that prompted Israel to launch a counterattack.

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and other pro-Palestinian representatives condemned the brutal terror attack but also called for an end to all violence as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared Israel “at war.”

“Today is devastating for all those who seek lasting peace and respect for human rights,” the AOC said in a statement. “I strongly condemn the attack by Hamas. No child and family should have to endure this kind of violence and fear, and this violence will not solve the continued oppression and occupation of the region.

“An immediate ceasefire and de-escalation is urgently needed to save lives.”

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), in part of his statement, also condemned the “horrific act … of children, women, the elderly, and unarmed people slaughtered and held hostage by Hamas” while calling for – increase.

Rep. Cori Bush (D-Missouri) criticized US foreign policy in her statement on the attack, insisting that in order to achieve peace in the region, the US must end “its support for Israeli military occupation and apartheid.”

Bush, along with Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.), also called for an end to the fighting. And Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) said “We need a way to end this deadly violence that is killing and traumatizing generations of Israelis and Palestinians—including the blockade of Gaza.”

The collection of statements was not well received by conservative commentators.

“Another Democrat wants a ‘truce; by victims of brutal terrorist attacks,” Kyle Lamb, a Florida Republican and Ron DeSantis campaign staffer, tweeted in response to Bush’s statement.

“The squad told Israel to retreat after it was attacked and hundreds of its people were massacred. Incredible,” the prominent conservative account Comfortably Smug tweeted in response to Pressley’s call for a ceasefire.

A writer for the conservative Townhall John Hasson blasted Omar’s statement for implying that “attacking/killing IDF soldiers is okay” because he only mentioned women, children, the elderly and unarmed people in his statement.

In response to the AOC’s demand that the fighting cease, prominent conservative activist Ned Ryun responded in a tweet, “What if not?”

It seems that Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) issued a statement on Saturday night.

Hamas fighters fired rockets at Israeli communities and moved in by land, boat and air Saturday morning as they carried out their surprise attack. At least 250 Israelis died and more than 1,500 were injured as a result of the attack. Dozens of Israelis have also been taken hostage.

More than 230 Gazans were also killed when Israel retaliated during the counter-offensive in the Gaza Strip.

“We will take great revenge for this evil day,” Netanyahu vowed.
