Stanley Tucci, an American actor, recently spoke about his battle with oral cancer. On the April 30 episode of Sunday Sitdown, the 62-year-old actor spoke with Willie Geist about his late wife, Kate Spath-Tucci, who died of breast cancer in 2009 at age 47. She also described how she felt after being diagnosed in 2017:
“My late wife and I traveled the world to find a cure for it.” So I was really surprised when I received it. “I’m scared, scared, scared.”
The Devil Wears Prada star previously revealed that the tumor at the base of her tongue was “too big to be operated on,” leaving her with only “high-dose radiation and chemotherapy” as treatment options. He described his treatment as “brutal” and “horrific.” He went on to say:
“I lost 35 pounds. I can’t eat anything. For six months, I was fed through a feeding tube, and everything tasted and smelled like you-know-what. And it took months and months for me to be able to eat and feel normal again.”
Stanley Tucci used to smoke but no longer smokes.
Stanley Tucci admitted to Cigar Aficionado in 2013 that he enjoyed quality tobacco but had quit smoking at the time:
“I haven’t smoked in a long time.”
He recalls his experience with cigars, saying:
“It was a gift from someone, and it was delicious.” I had my period when I smoked a lot of cigarettes and then I stopped. I adore him—and I miss him.”
Tucci mentioned during the conversation that his grandfather used to smoke De Nobilis cigars.
“They were smoked by all the Italian immigrants.” They appear in groups of four or five, and no one knows what they are built for. It tastes like compacted feces; I tried it a few times and didn’t know how he smoked it.”
Through his friends, Oliver Platt and Aidan Quinn, Stanley Tucci developed a taste for tobacco. Quinn is said to have taught him how to smoke a cigar. The Lovely Bones actress described her favorite cigar as depending on many things such as the time of day, what she ate, the temperature, or whether it was taken as an after-dinner drink.
“I don’t mind a good cigar.” It’s similar to Scotch in that you don’t want it to be too peaty. You only want a bit of peatland, not a whole bog.”
He went on to say that he used to smoke cigars after dinner while writing, or while fishing in the reservoir around his house:
“Because of my grandfather, cigars represent a true working-class person, but also someone who is rich.” I’m not sure if there is anything in between. I guess you would refer to it as a cigarette.”
Citadel, starring Richard Madden, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Ashleigh Cummings, Roland Miller, Lesley Manville, and Caoilinn Springall, is in theaters now.
