In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 30-year-old actress was asked how much she relates to her character, Fran.
“I can relate that I sometimes think, ‘I’m fine in this world,’ but then, I sometimes think, ‘I don’t belong. I don’t know what I’m doing.’ I’m not great in social situations,” explained Ridley. “I would reflect on something I said that might come out the wrong way and I didn’t mean to. I would lie in bed for hours thinking, ‘Oh my God, I didn’t mean it.’ I’m actually an introvert. I find it quite difficult to be around people unless I am very comfortable. So I relate in all those general social ways.”
In terms of solitude, Ridley describes herself as “the kind of person who’s good on her own, but I’ve never been.” He said that he “worked hard” to be around so many people at the Sundance Film Festival. “So, I don’t know that I’m great at being alone, but I feel the pull,” she says. “As we all know, loneliness can be quite unhealthy, so I try to be around people, even if I don’t really feel it, because I know it will give me a little boost.”

Ridley was an unknown when she was cast in 2015’s “The Force Awakens.” Her role as Rey made her a household name and she went on to star in the Lucasfilm franchise for 2017’s “The Last Jedi” and 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker,” which concluded Skywalker’s nine episodes. Saga. To date, no Star Wars movies have been released in theaters since then, though the franchise has kept busy with numerous Disney+ TV shows.
When asked about moving from a global franchise to a small-scale production, Ridley noted that there is a “difference in visibility” between the two. “In general, the goal of any film – whether it’s made for $100,000 or $300 million – is to ultimately share something that speaks to people and tells a story that resonates,” he explains.
“So it obviously feels different because it’s a smaller show and what have you, but it’s still the same feeling of being proud of the work and being able to share it. So hearing people’s responses has been gratifying,” he added, calling the screening of “Sometimes I Think About Dying” at the Sundance Film Festival “a very gratifying response to such a heartwarming story.”

Some of Fran’s quirks put her at odds with Ridley herself. Although Fran’s food of choice is cottage cheese, Ridley explains that she doesn’t eat cottage cheese because she’s vegan. Fortunately, he explained that the film’s art team made something that looked like cottage cheese, which he revealed was “actually very tasty.”
He also revealed that writing with his left hand has made him ambidextrous. When asked about how it interfered with his lightsaber choreography during his time on Star Wars, Ridley admitted that it didn’t.
“Well, most left-handed people are quite ambidextrous. So I just started with an old sword in my right hand, and it wasn’t too much of an issue,” he explained. “But funny enough, I had to approve a clip for something I did, and it was from Murder on the Orient Express.”

“Of course, in those days, you wouldn’t be allowed to write left-handed,” he continued. “My aunt was taught to write with her right hand; his left hand is tied behind his back. So, I had to put a line with my left hand, and I was like, ‘I can’t write with my right hand.’ But as far as choreography goes, there’s no problem.”
