Filmmaker Ron Howard directed “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” a prequel to Han Solo, Lando Calrissian and other fan-favorite characters.
Unfortunately, the film had a problematic production and failed to perform at the box office. Therefore, fans were never too optimistic that the 2018 film would get a sequel.
One pandemic and several canceled Star Wars projects later, it’s starting to look like a possible sequel just as Han surpassed his old Kessel Run record.

In a recent interview with NME, Ron Howard didn’t seem too optimistic about the idea of a sequel.
“The only talk I’m aware of about a sequel to Solo is coming from fans at this point,” Howard said. “I don’t think it’s Lucasfilm’s priority, as I understand it.”
However, he tried to assure fans “never say no” when it comes to the delayed Star Wars project.

“The people at Lucasfilm love the fans and really listen, so I would never say no,” he added. “But I’m not aware of any concrete plans right now to extend the story or address that particular set of characters.”
At this point, it is unclear if any of the actors will return to reprise their roles.
Will Donald Glover Return As Lando Calrissian?

In 2018, “Atlanta” star Donald Glover, who plays Lando Calrissian, talked about reprising the character in “Solo: A Star Wars Story” Town Hall.
“It will always be fun to be Lando again,” he said at the time. “The film, I think, is wide open. This part of the universe without… I think like with the Skywalkers, it’s hard because it’s almost like the Bible.”

“There’s a story you have to tell, and that’s the lineage of the family,” he continued. “I feel like here, yeah, we’re like hunters and gamblers and space pirates, basically, so you can do more and have more fun.”
Fortunately, several characters have lived on through the comic books, including Q’ira’s adventures with the Crimson Dawn.
Fortunately, There Are More ‘Star Wars’ Movies on the Horizon

While Ron Howard may be spending his time in a galaxy far, far away, some new directors have just come into the Lucasfilm family. Director Shawn Levy, who previously directed Ryan Reynolds in “Free Guy,” “The Adam Project,” and “Deadpool 3,” is currently in the process of developing his own Star Wars story.
In a December 2022 interview with Collider, via Screen Rant, Shawn Levy revealed that he’s been talking to Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy “for a while now” and will be ready to work on his new film… once he wraps up his commitment to Marvel’s anti-hero .

“Yes. I am very aware of the ratio of filmmakers who make it to the starting line. As you know, Steve, I’m a student of the business, so of course I take that into account,” Levy said. “But here’s my attitude: I have this golden ticket to a galaxy far, far away, and I’m going to devote myself to developing the screenplay that gave me the privilege of making this film.”
“I don’t attach things because they look good in trade announcements. I stick to what I want to do. And you better believe I won’t waste this most exciting opportunity,” he continued. “I’m going to work my a– off. But first, I have to work on making Deadpool. So of course this is a long-term plan, but I want to be one of the films that make it to the starting line because this is a rare opportunity, and I want to make the most of it.”

“I’ve been talking to Kathy Kennedy for a while now, and she’s been aware of my passion for this franchise for a long time. The stars finally aligned, and he came to me and said, let’s do something here,” he added. “And that’s all I can say. But this is definitely development and not even close to ready yet. So there is a lot of work to be done.”
Fortunately, season 2 of the animated cartoon “The Bad Batch” has just been released. The highly anticipated Season 3 of “The Mandalorian” will also drop in March, with several other Star Wars shows dropping soon after. So while it may take a while for Star Wars fans to see the movie in theaters again, at least there’s still plenty of new content popping up in the galaxy far, far away.
