A custody dispute between a German steakhouse heiress and her ex-husband took an unexpected turn over the weekend when their youngest child was kidnapped while celebrating the New Year with their father in Denmark, local authorities said.
Christina Block’s two children — Klara and Theodor, 13, 13 — were watching fireworks with their father, Block’s ex-husband Stephan Hensel, in a cafe in Gravenstein around 12:15 a.m. Monday when a group of men attacked, Bild newspaper reported.
The man rammed Hensel and forced the child into the car before speeding away in two separate vehicles, the outlet said, citing Danish police.
The car used to kidnap the child was registered in Germany, the newspaper added.
Gravestein is about 10 miles from the German border, and federal police stationed patrol cars at the border at 1:07 a.m.
“We were called because of a possible kidnapping,” a federal German police spokesman told Bild.
Hamburg police are investigating the incident, the outlet explained.

Block, 49, is the son of German entrepreneur Eugen Block, whose Hamburg-based empire includes the popular Block House chain of steakhouses.
Block has been fighting with Hensel, 49, over custody of Klara and Theodor since the summer of 2021, when Hansel allegedly kept the two children with him in Denmark after a visit, Bild reported.
The couple’s eldest daughter Johanna, 17, lives with Hansel voluntarily, while middle daughter Greta, 15, lives in Hamburg with Block.
The abduction may be linked to a custody dispute, Danish police told Bild.
Block not Hansel has publicly commented on the kidnapping.
