The world of entertainment has lost another star. Broadway dancer and choreographer Stephanie Bissonnette died on December 18, 2022 and Broadway fans are mourning her death. Distractify reports that Stephanie’s cause of death was medulloblastoma.
The entertainment news outlet further quotes the Mayo Clinic, medulloblastoma is a “cancerous (malignant) brain tumor that starts in the lower back part of the brain, called the cerebellum. The cerebellum is involved in muscle coordination, balance, and movement.
The clinic further states that “medulloblastoma can occur at any age, but is most common in young children. Although medulloblastoma is rare, it is the most common cancerous brain tumor in children.
Patients with medulloblastoma may undergo various surgical procedures, radiation therapy and chemotherapy, all of which Stephanie had to deal with after being diagnosed with the disease. Although the five-year survival rate is 70%, that figure does not take into account the stage of the disease at the time of diagnosis or what happens after those five years.
Distractify further reports that she was first diagnosed in 2019. After the diagnosis, she spoke to him Survivor Net about how the experience was. He explained that while doing the broadcast, he felt “a touch … [it] really went by in two seconds — it was so short, and I was able to finish the show that day.” But that’s how he knew something was wrong.
“I don’t think we will find it [the tumor] if I work a normal 9 to 5 job,” he said. “Because I move around a lot and I do crazy things for a living — I’ve been doing it since I was 5 years old — just [that] moment in the show [made me go], ‘Why am I in trouble today? There must be something else going on.’” He had surgery nine days after his MRI, with a nine-month recovery period.
