Late-night host Stephen Colbert made a shocking Grim Reaper joke about Joe Biden on Monday as he marked the president’s 81st birthday.
Responding to reports that some people close to Biden thought he shouldn’t have been put in “Bubble Wrap” but instead made jokes about his age and didn’t shy away from the issue, the CBS host wore a pair of aviator sunglasses.
“Hey everyone, knock, knock?” Colbert as Biden asked. “Who’s there?” the “Late Show” crowd responded.
“Not sure, but he’s been standing quietly in my doorway for a while now. He’s a pale man, in a big cloak, a long sharp knife on a pole,” Colbert said, as some in the crowd sounded shocked. “Smiling right at me, great bunch of chompers. Look into his eye sockets and see a little movie of all the fun things I did when I was a kid.”
Colbert also quipped that Biden is running around town with poll numbers “less than half his age,” referring to a recent poll that showed him at just a 40 percent approval rating.
Biden’s birthday may receive more attention than usual given that he is already the oldest US president in history, and recent polls and media reports have reflected public anxiety and Democratic Party concerns about his viability as a candidate.

On Monday, New York Times reporter Peter Baker noted on MSNBC that Biden specifically avoided lavish public celebrations that day so as not to draw more attention to the event.
“You’re not going to see a big lavish celebration like the way Barack Obama celebrated his 50th birthday in office or Bill Clinton celebrated his birthday in office with fundraisers and concerts and all that,” Baker said. “You’ll see basically almost nothing.”
“I mean, he’s not going to do anything public about it today, doesn’t want to draw attention to it,” he added, noting he’ll celebrate in private on Nantucket with his family.
Although the president joked about his age on Monday when he pardoned two turkeys named Liberty and Bell, saying, “I just want you to know it’s hard to be 60 years old,” Baker argued the current administration wants to shift the focus away from his age as he runs for term. the second

Politico also reported that some aides wanted Biden to wear more comfortable shoes and walk less in front of the camera to avoid showing a stiff gait.
Biden’s staff grew increasingly irritated by stories and questions about his age, seeing as the DC salon talk was irrelevant to his job performance. They also note that his most likely opponent in 2024, former President Trump, is no spring chicken himself at age 77.
Biden’s birthday was also a joke on another late-night show on Monday.
NBC’s “Late Show” host Seth Meyers said Biden had turned 81 despite his aides “specifically advising him not to.”
