Steve Burton Re-joins ‘General Hospital’ After Divorce Settlement

Steve Burton starts the new year with new opportunities!

Days after the Indianapolis actor closed the door on his marriage to Sheree Gustin, fate paved the way for his stunning return to the iconic soap opera. He will reprise his old role as Jason Morgan on the beloved show “General Hospital” after losing the gig in 2021 due to COVID-19 regulations.

Steve Burton Says ‘Big Things Are Coming’ on ‘Big Hospital’ Return

Burton’s return to “General Hospital” comes on the show’s 60th Anniversary, with showrunners dropping the news via a dramatic teaser on their X page. The videos begins on a shadowy stage with three doors placed next to each other when a light suddenly flashes over the entrance.

The door opens to reveal “GH” actress Laura Wright in an all-black outfit. “You know what they say when one door closes,” he said before the door at the far end cut away to reveal his co-star Kelly Monaco. “Another door is open,” the latter concluded.

The women stopped in front of each other’s doors, flashing intense stares at each other as the background music peaked. Then Burton strode through the central entrance, leaving a trail of smoke behind her while rocking an all-black ensemble similar to Wright’s.

Burton first appeared on “General Hospital” in 1991, with his character getting noticed as Jason Quartermaine. However, the fictional character reinvented himself as Jason Morgan after losing his memory in a car accident.

The next 11 years saw Burton gain popularity for her role, including winning a 1998 Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress. Before the COVID-19 drama, he quit the soap opera in 2012 and returned in 2017.

Unfortunately, he was fired from the show in 2021 for failing to comply with the program’s COVID-19 rules. At the time, Burton promised he would return in a statement on Instagram, saying:

“I will always be grateful for my time at the General Hospital. I like it there. Maybe one day, if this mandate is lifted, I can come back and finish my career as Jason Morgan. That would be an honor.”

As noted, Burton returned to “GH” after the end of his marriage. But his renewed opportunity also marks the end of his time on “Days of Our Lives,” which he rejoins at the start of 2023.

Steve Burton Finalizes His Divorce With a Settlement

Last year ended with the end of Burton’s longtime marriage to Sheree Gustin. The former couple finalized their divorce after reaching a settlement, which saw both parties waive their right to spousal support regardless of any “unforeseen circumstances.”

The agreement states that Burton will pay Gustin $50,000 in retroactive support following a monthly installment plan of $2,500. The couple will also share legal and physical custody of their two young children, Brooklyn and Jack.

As for the children’s finances, the Indianapolis actor will give Gustin $12,500 a month in child support for their children until April 2024. The fee includes $10,000 for nine-year-old Brooklyn and $2,500 for 17-year-old Jack.

After April, monthly child support payments will be reduced to $10,000 — an amount dedicated solely to Brooklyn until she turns 18. In short, Burton’s child support obligations for Jack will end when he turns 18 at the end of March 2024.

Burton and Gustin, who tied the knot in January 1999, reportedly split after the father lost his role on “General Hospital.” The severity of the situation became public in 2022 when the actress revealed Gustin was expecting another son.
