“Auditioning for ‘The Office’ was unlike any audition I’ve ever been through,” Carrell said. “It feels like a workshop. It didn’t feel like an audition. There doesn’t seem to be a ton of pressure.”

Fischer, 49, who plays Pam Beesly on the show, later said she remembers when she did a screen test with Carrell after many callbacks. Carrell jumped in to add, “I remember auditioning with you. I remember how grounded you were immediately in your character.”

“My last one, talking about difficult, it was a very difficult episode to do but I also loved it at the same time because it was kind of the finale for Michael,” he said.

“It’s the pinnacle of that, showing the growth that he doesn’t need a big send-off, he doesn’t need a big party. He was able to say goodbye to all his friends on his own terms without any fanfare, so I really enjoyed the character growing to that point, at that point.”

Carrell also said one of his favorite episodes was “Dinner Party” which was filmed after returning from the writers’ strike. He said the episode was “just sitting there waiting.”

“I think everyone is ready to get back to work and really miss each other, and this is an episode that’s just sitting there waiting to happen for a while,” he said. “There’s a lot going on in that one so I like that one too.”

Steve Carrell’s Last Episode On The Show Was Emotional

The last few weeks on Carrell’s show have been tough for all the cast, but Carrell says the time is right for him to move on.

“It’s been hard because we’re good friends and it’s been really fun and really rewarding in a lot of ways, all the ways, but at the same time, for me, there’s a joy to it,” he said.

“I’m not sad to leave. It’s time for other characters to step forward and other storylines to continue. I think it’s right, the time is right. I think for everybody but at the same time I’m glad that we’ve been through all this and we get, I get the chance to take laps with everybody.”

Working together. But, yes, it’s a lot, it’s a very emotional thing.

Kinsey, 51, who plays Angela Martin on the show added, “I still remember. We would be laughing one minute and then tearing up the next. But like you said, it’s because we had such a good run, we had such a good time.”
