In a statement to Us Weekly, Martin revealed that he was “shocked” after reading his former co-star’s claims that he was “terrifying” to her while they were filming scenes in “Little Shop of Horrors.”

Margolyes claims that in that scene, her character was “punched” by Martin, and she needed several takes to achieve the desired result.

In response, Martin disputed the actress’ “pejorative account” by explaining that the scene involved a fake shot. He went on to emphasize that he exercised “extreme caution” during the part in question and in no way caused Margolyes any harm.

“When I first read Miriam Margolyes’ pejorative account of our scene in Little Shop of Horrors, I was shocked,” the American comedian told the publication.

He later recounted his own version of the scene, saying, “I remember taking great care about the fake shots — the same care I would use with any similar scene.”

In his defense, Martin insisted that he was not the only presence on set and insisted that other actors and crew members could corroborate his account.

He said, “Also on set, overseeing their actions, was the highly skilled and sensitive director, Frank Oz, a stunt coordinator, camera crew, script supervisor, and extras who witnessed the entire, very well-rehearsed scene.”

Oz also supports Martin, telling US Weekly that he found what Margolyes said “disturbing” because he was always “rehearsing physical actions in slow motion.”

He added, “The scene should have included a fake shot. It’s confusing what he’s talking about,” Oz said. “It’s not the Steve I know or anyone knows. He has always been professional and respectful to everyone in all my shoots.”

As for the supposed beating scene, he explained that it made him feel very uncomfortable and that he had a “bursting headache” after they finished filming.

“I didn’t enjoy it, and I had a splitting headache at the end of the day,” she shared of the scene in which she portrayed a cynical dental nurse while Martin played a sadistic dentist.
