Actor Joseph Quinn went viral and drew attention for his stellar performance as an 80s metalhead in “Stranger Things” season 4.
The actor starred as Eddie Munson in the fourth season of the Netflix series. Although the fan-favorite character was killed off at the end of the season, Quinn received a lot of praise for her performance on the show.
During a recent interview Quinn admitted that she found his character ridiculous and “weird.” The actress explained that she felt that way because she was required to wear a “big wig” and do an American accent for the role.

It was a strange and different experience for the British actor, who has an English accent and usually wears short curly hair. Quinn also said she felt “physically” disconnected from the character. Even though she doesn’t like watching herself this season, Quinn enjoys watching her co-stars in action.

It Was Strange For Joseph Quinn To Watch Himself

Quinn admitted how proud she is of herself on the show during an interview with her Esquire Singapore (via Insider). The actor looked back on his performances in previous films such as 2017’s “Kin” and 2018’s “Overlord” and noted how much “growth” he had done over the years. However, he admitted that watching himself in “Stranger Things” was strange.
Quinn said, “With Eddie, it was a very strange experience because obviously, I was wearing this big wig, and I was trying to do my best American accent. The star also shared that he felt very different from his character. He said, “It is a kind of physical difference and role at the same time.”

Quinn’s character, Eddie Munson, is the leader of the “Dungeons & Dragons” club at Hawkins High School. After witnessing the horrific death of a classmate, Chrissy Cunningham (played by Grace Van Dien), she joins the rest of the show’s main cast to protect Hawkins from Vecna and the forces of the Upside down.

The character’s long, dark hair and unique behavior contrast with the actor’s actual physical appearance and reserved personality. Munson also has a bat tattoo depicting his death by a bat in the final episode of the season. Her puppet master tattoo also depicts the most talked about scene from the show.
In the season finale, the star played electric guitar to the tune of Metallica’s “Master Of Puppets” and got fans excited. One Twitter fan called the scene “the most metal show I’ve ever seen.” He also wrote, “Chopping Master of Puppets Metallica in a literal hellscape, Eddie Munson: The Freak, The Banished, THE HERO?.”
The performance also gave Quinn the opportunity to perform on stage with the band Metallica. One shocked fan tweeted, “I can’t believe Metallica put Eddie in their puppet master show; it’s a big deal!!.”

American Accent Offends Him
Quinn also revealed how stressful it was to pull off an American accent for the season. On the July episode of the “Off Menu” podcast, the “Game Of Thrones” star explained what it was like to change his accent for the role. He said, “You sound like a sociopath.”

The star also explained that she was nervous and wondering if she was right for the role or good enough. Quinn says, “After a while I’m way down the rabbit hole, at points I’ll be like, ‘Do I sound good? Do you like this? Do you like what I’m doing?’
Despite Quinn’s doubts about his performance this season, many fans took to Twitter to express their pride in him. One tweet read, “The fact that Joseph Quinn was worried that the duffers made the mistake of throwing him out and now look at the impact he has after delivering the performance that made Eddie Munson a fan favorite.”

Although she joined the show after three seasons, Quinn developed a bond with the main cast and was proud of their performances in season 4. While she Esquire Singapore interview, the actor recalled that it felt “surreal” to see himself with the lead actor on screen.

He also praised other cast members such as David Harbour, Brett German, and Winona Ryder for their “wonderful” performances. It was nice to see their efforts “come together” to create a beautiful show.
