‘Succession’ Alan Ruck’s Golden Globes Cane Not Linked To His Massive Car Crash

Alan Ruck turned heads at the 2024 Golden Globes, but the buzz he generated had nothing to do with his outfit.

The “Succession” star raised concerns about her well-being as she walked the red carpet with crutches. Many wondered if this walking aid served as a fashion statement, while others suspected it had something to do with his car accident in 2023.

Ruck has yet to break his silence on the viral speculation; however, a source close to him recently spilled the tea. This insider claims the actor’s cane is linked to a health condition that started long before his unfortunate accident.

Alan Ruck Uses Walking Aid For Months After Knee Sleeve Debuts

The Hollywood veteran’s surprise Golden Globes appearance renewed public interest in his viral car crash. Last October, Ruck had a serious accident after losing control of his electric truck and crashing into a pizza shop.

The accident caused a lot of damage when the actor’s vehicle collided with another car before crashing into the wall of the restaurant. Fortunately, he escaped the incident with no visible injuries but made his debut with a knee brace in his first appearance after the accident.

A few months later, Ruck stepped out on crutches, naturally causing many to speculate whether he was still recovering from the accident. However, a source close to him begged to differ, claiming the walking aid was not related to the accident but the actor’s battle with arthritis.

The condition led to Ruck undergoing total knee replacement surgery three and a half weeks ago, as an insider revealed to TMZ. They said the cane was an absolute necessity for him, and he often used it to get around.

As noted, the entertainer’s walking assistance comes months after he began wearing a knee brace following his major car accident. Last November, paparazzi spotted him limping to his car wearing a gray hoodie, white T-shirt and black shorts.

The 67-year-old, who completed his outfit with gray sneakers and dark sunglasses, looked tired as he held a mug of drink. On his left knee was a brace that caught the attention of the paparazzi, with one telling Ruck that he was glad to see him still walking after the terrible accident.

However, he shut down speculation that the injuries were a result of the car accident. “This is not from the accident. This is because I am getting older,” he said while pointing to the baju kurung.

Regarding the unfortunate accident, Ruck stated that he was fine and thankful for the lack of casualties. “I’m fine, and thank God no one was killed,” he said before addressing fans’ comments about the car accident that became his second headline.

The Hollywood veteran previously caused a stir for reportedly crashing a Ferrari “kit car” while filming the 1986 film “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” However, he didn’t have much to say about the incident, brushing it off as “I guess that’s what people say. God bless everyone.”

A month before starting his walking career, Ruck was sued over his car accident in October by one of the victims of the accident. The plaintiff, Horacio Vela, claims he suffered serious injuries as a result of the collision and blames his grief on the actor’s negligence.

Recalling the accident in his claim, Vela stated he was waiting at a red light at the intersection of La Brea Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard when a vehicle, later identified as Ruck’s 2023 Rivian R1T pickup truck, crashed into his car.

The alleged victim added that Ruck’s actions forced his car into oncoming traffic, where he collided with another vehicle turning on La Brea Avenue. Vela said the accident left him with “severe injuries and impairments,” including dizziness, memory loss, and fogginess.

His lawyer, Neama Rahmani, echoed similar sentiments, stating the victim was found unconscious at the scene and then rushed to the hospital, where he was found to have a subdural hematoma.

Additionally, the lawsuit claims the accident caused Vela to suffer “property damage, past and future medical costs, pain and suffering, mental anguish, emotional distress and other consequential damages.” The alleged victim wanted Ruck to be held accountable because his insurance refused to pay.

“An accident happened. That’s what insurance is for. But Alan Ruck’s insurance company, State Farm, refused to accept responsibility for the crash,” the plaintiff’s attorney told the source. “Ruck said he didn’t know what happened, and the Los Angeles Police Department said it was a vehicle issue while Rivian, the manufacturer, said the truck was working fine.”

“In this case, many people have been violated, and businesses have been damaged,” Rahmani continued. “We believe Ruck is responsible for the damage, and we filed a lawsuit seeking subpoenaed evidence and witnesses to prove our case.”
