Superman’s got your back, kid.
Actor Dean Cain– who starred as the Man of Steel in the 1990s series “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” — cheered on 12-year-old Jaiden Rodriguez, a Colorado high school student who was kicked out of his classroom over a Gadsden flag attached to a bag the bearing.
“Good job, Jaiden,” Cain write at X, formerly Twitter. “It takes courage to stand up for what’s right.”
Jaiden was told this week he couldn’t attend class at Vanguard School until he pulled out of his bag a patch featuring the phrase “Don’t Tread on Me” and a coiled snake on a yellow background.
A video recording of the Bizarro encounter between the child’s mother and an administrator was posted on X on Tuesday and went viral faster than a speeding bullet.
In the clip, administrators at the public charter school claim that Jaiden can’t wear the patch because of his “origins with slavery and the slave trade.”

The boy’s mother, Eden Rodriguez, however, argued that the flag’s origins can actually be traced to the Revolutionary War, not slavery – although the school claims Jaiden has also violated the dress code for additional patches on his bag, including one that displays. semi-automatic weapons.
The video sparked public outrage, with the state’s Democratic governor Jared Polis scrambling to defend the boy.

“The Gadsden flag is a proud symbol of the American Revolution and an iconic warning to Britain or any government not to infringe on the liberties of the American people,” Polis wrote.
“It appears on popular American medals and challenge coins to this day and Ben Franklin even adopted it to symbolize the union of the 13 colonies. It was a great teaching moment for history lessons!”
Following public outrage, the Vanguard School Board called an emergency meeting and reversed its decision, allowing Jaiden to return to the classroom with the Gadsden flag on display.

“Vanguard School recognizes the historical significance of the Gadsden flag and its place in history,” the board wrote in an email to parents. “This incident is an opportunity for us to confirm our deep commitment to classical education in support of these American principles.
In recent years, the Gadsden flag has become a symbol of the Tea Party movement and is increasingly associated with conservative politics.
In 2016, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission investigated a US Postal Service employee’s complaint about co-workers wearing Gadsden flag hats and ruled that the flag itself is not a racist symbol, but “is sometimes interpreted to convey a racist message in some contexts.”
