Efruz the Jack Russell terrier is a salty dog.
The 4-year-old pup has become a local celebrity in the Peruvian beach town — where he spends his days surfing.
Dressed in a bright yellow jacket, the four-legged water enthusiast is often seen expertly balancing himself in front of the board, reveling in the foaming waves around him and his fellow human surfers.
Efruz, a 4-year-old Jack Russell Terrier, loves to surf with his owner in Peru. AP Mauro Canella, a surf instructor at the beach in San Bartolo, introduced Efruz to surfing a year ago. AP
“He loves the sea,” said his owner, Mauro Canella, a surfing instructor at the beach in San Bartolo, about 30 miles from the capital Lima.
Canella said he and Efruz became surfing buddies about a year ago.
And they’re not the only dog-human duo riding the waves there – a dozen or so can be seen over the weekend.
Wearing his yellow jacket, Efruz positioned himself in front of the surfboard. AP
Although Efruz cooled down as time went on, he seemed to enjoy his new sport, firmly positioning himself in front of the board while Canella glided across the ocean standing, kneeling or lying down.
Like all surfers – human and canine alike – Efruz sometimes can’t handle the waves and is thrown into the water.
But Efruz, wearing his signature yellow jacket, just faltered, his owner said.
