Surprise verdict reached in case involving LI mom who allegedly ran over son’s teen bully: ‘ Happy with the outcome’

A Long Island mother accused of repeatedly attacking her teenage son’s notorious bully was sensationally acquitted of attempted murder Tuesday in a surprise verdict, according to local reports.

Jennifer Nelson, 36, faces up to 25 years in prison for repeatedly ramming her Honda Passport at a 15-year-old boy she believes stole her son’s Adidas Ye slides last October.

But a Suffolk County jury took less than four hours to clear him of the top rap, and instead opted for the lesser conviction of leaving the scene of an accident with serious injuries.

His lawyers said they would seek probation in the case.

“I’m glad I finally got to tell my son’s story and I appreciate the jury for their decision,” Nelson told Newsday after the verdict. “I’m just happy with the results.”

Witnesses told investigators they saw Nelson speeding toward accused bully James Gamez in the parking lot as he tried to take cover inside the bagel shop.

Passing drivers said they saw him attack the teenager once before hitting him a second time and then leaving the scene.

In building their case, prosecutors said Nelson traded in his vehicle on the same day in an attempt to conceal the alleged crime.

But their case is hampered by a lack of footage of the incident.

Gamez suffered a broken pelvis, a punctured lung and several broken ribs.

Giving evidence in his own defence, Nelson said he did not realize he had ensnared anyone and had no intention of harming the boy.

“I would call the police if I knew I hit someone,” Nelson said, the outlet reported.

The violent confrontation came two hours after Nelson was caught on cellphone camera pulling a knife on a group of teenagers who he believed had just beaten and robbed his son.

Nelson’s son has accused several classmates at William Floyd High School of giving him a broken nose and concussion after stealing his shoes and AirPods.

The boy called his angry mother, who confronted the teenager near the school about half an hour later.

Nelson said he only wanted to scare the attackers when he threatened them with a knife.
