Controversy
Criticism for Dedicating Miss France to Violence Against Women
As the chief organizer, Sylvie Tellier chose to dedicate Miss France 2018 to the fight against violence against women. This decision, influenced by the global #MeToo movement that followed the Harvey Weinstein scandal, was met with skepticism and criticism by many, including feminist groups. They question the propriety of using the Miss France platform to fight for women’s rights in this way.
Controversial Dress Selection in Honor of Geneviève de Fontenay
In 2023, the Miss France selection includes a tribute to the late Geneviève de Fontenay, who died on August 1. The tribute was simple yet touching, featuring several generations of Miss France titleholders on stage, each dressed in black trousers and white shirts, complete with their iconic sashes indicating the year of their coronation. However, Sylvie’s outfit in particular received negative attention given the passive rift between the two before.
