The youngest daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis, now 29 years old, wrote an essay for Vogue detailing his journey that included battling an eating disorder, past trauma, ADHD, and how his father’s early symptoms of frontotemporal dementia affected him.

Tallulah explained that when people first found out about her getting mental health help a few years ago, it wasn’t her choice, but now it is.
“The first time I entered psychiatric treatment, at the age of 20, my medical information found its way to Daily Mail,” he wrote in his essay. “At that time the choice to tell my story was taken away from me. Now, nine years and lots of therapy later, I can make that decision myself.”
She went on to explain why she sometimes wonders if it’s okay for her to be so open about her struggles.
“And the fact that, even though I believe that everyone’s suffering is real, I’m always afraid of looking like a spoiled, insensitive, whiner,” she continued. “I was raised to keep my mouth shut.”

Last June, Tallulah’s relationship with her then-fiance ended, and her family sent her to Driftwood Recovery in Texas. It was there that he was given a new diagnosis.
“I was introduced to various therapies, my medication was readjusted, and I was given a new diagnosis: borderline personality disorder, an illness that affects the ability to control emotions and find stability in relationships,” she revealed.
“By the time I left Texas, in October, I felt better. I realized that what I wanted more than harmony with my body was harmony with my family—to no longer worry them, to trouble my siblings and my parents.”
Tallulah shared her diagnosis on Instagram with her followers and many took to the comments to thank her for being open about a subject that is sometimes hidden from the public.

Tallulah Willis Is Now “Present In All Aspects” of Her Life

Tallulah realizes that recovery will likely be a lifelong process, but she is now armed with the knowledge and tools necessary to “be present in all aspects of my life,” especially when it comes to her relationship with her father.
“I can give him bright, bright energy, no matter where I am. I used to be so afraid of being crushed by grief, but finally I feel like I can show up and be expected,” he said.
“I can enjoy that moment, hold my father’s hand, and feel that it’s beautiful. I know that trials are coming, that this is the beginning of grief, but it’s all about loving yourself before you can love someone else—it’s real.”

Now that Tallulah was feeling better, she could focus on trying to make her father more comfortable. Her baby sister also helped the family on the trip, and Tallulah was grateful to be there for that.
“In April, my sister Rumer had a baby girl, Louetta, and Bruce and Demi became grandparents. There’s this little creature that changes by the clock, and there’s this thing that happened with my dad that can change so quickly and so unpredictably,” he said.
“It feels like a unique and special time in my family, and I’m so happy to be here for it.”
